The International Olympic Committee (IOC) recorded an attendance of 1,078,319 fans during the recently concluded Paris 2024 Olympic Women’s and Men’s Basketball Tournaments.
According to statistics reported by BasketNews, Paris 2024 basketball attendance surpassed the long-standing record of 1,068,032 spectators set at the Atlanta Olympics in 1996.

Social Media engagement also grew significantly during the tournament, highlighting the increasing popularity of international basketball and its prominent place at the Olympic Games.
Across all of FIBA’s Social Media platforms, there were over 2.7 billion impressions and 72 million engagements, a substantial increase compared to the 13 million engagements for the Tokyo Olympics three years ago.
Video views experienced a massive surge, reaching an impressive 330 million—a significant jump from the 34 million in 2021.
Since July and the start of the FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournaments (OQTs), FIBA’s Social Media accounts have gained over one million new followers.
Fans flocked to FIBA event websites, generating 6.5 million visits, resulting in a 34% increase in visits to the OQTs and Men’s Olympic Basketball Tournament websites compared to the same events in Tokyo. Pageviews surged to 35.2 million, an 89% increase compared to 2021.
The growth for the Women’s events websites was even more remarkable, with three times as many visits and pageviews as the summer of 2021 for the WOQTs and Women’s Olympic Basketball Tournament, confirming the global rise of women’s basketball at the international level.
