Samuel Omorodion bagged a late goal which was only a consolation strike as Spain lost 2-1 to Egypt, in their final Group C game in the men’s football event of the Paris Olympic games on Tuesday.
Omorodion scored in the 90th minute but the Egyptians held on to claim the win and finish top of the group.
Ibrahim Adel got Egypt’s two goals, giving them the lead with five minutes left to play in the first half.
Adel then got on the score sheet again when he made it 2-0 in the 62nd minute.
After three games, the junior Pharaohs finished top of the group on seven points while Spain placed second on six points. Both teams advanced into the quarter-finals while Dominican Republic and Uzbekistan crash out.
Also on Tuesday, in Group B, Morocco thrashed Iraq 3-0 to finish top on six points and to progress into the last eight.
The Moroccans were joined by Argentina who also had six points and placed second after beating Ukraine 2-0.
In other results, France thrashed New Zealand 3-0 amd USA recorded the same scoreline against Guinea (3-0). France and USA advanced into the quarter-finals.
