France’s Victor Wembanyama recorded 19 points to help his country secure a 78-66 win against Brazil in their opening match of the Paris 2024 Olympics men’s basketball tournament.
The host nation’s team struggled past Brazil with quarter scores of 15-23, 24-13, 18-9, and 21-2, securing their first win in the Paris 2024 Olympics men’s basketball tournament.

According to Basketnews, Wembanyama was close to a double-double, scoring 19 points and grabbing 9 rebounds, 4 steals, and 3 blocks for a game-leading 25 EFF.
Brazil statred the game on fire, taking a nine-point lead (19-10) as France lost the first quarter.
However, the French team started inching closer to the Brazilians in the second period and took control of the game.
While leading by double digits, Brazil pushed back and narrowed their deficit to 4 points with half a quarter to go (62-58).
Nevertheless, Nicolas Batum made a couple of defensive plays while Wembanyama slammed down another dunk, and France secured the victory.
Up next, France will play against Japan on Tuesday, July 30th, while Brazil will match up against 2023 FIBA World Cup winners Germany.
