Greece’s men’s national basketball team point guard, Nick Calathes, sustained a rib injury during his country’s defeat to Spain in their second Group A game at the Paris 2024 Olympics on Tuesday, July 30.
According to the Greek Federation, Calathes is under medical care, raising doubts about his availability for their critical match against Australia on Friday.

Calathes was taken to the hospital following their loss to Spain.
Initial scans showed no fractures, but the player is undergoing treatment in hopes of being fit for Friday’s crucial Game Day 3 match against Australia.
“Initial X-rays and ultrasounds showed no fractures but revealed some damage to the soft tissues and around the lower ribs. Calathes is now taking painkillers and is under medical supervision,” the Greek Federation said in an update.
With Greece currently 0-2 in the Olympic Basketball Tournament, a win against the Boomers is essential for their chances of reaching the quarterfinals.
