It was a pleasant surprise and a breath of fresh air that brightened the mood and lifted the spirits in the Team Nigeria Camp at the Olympics Games.
The Nigerian Women’s Basketball team, affectionately labelled D’Tigress faced a daunting prospect in 3rd seed and former World Champions Australia in their opening Group B match in Lille.
It seemed like another tale of woe for Team Nigeria.
But these Nigerian Ladies are made of stern tough and have overcome adversity both on and off the court.

The performance by D’Tigress is a timely boost for Team Nigeria Captain Anuoluwapo Opeyori who faces Tobias Kunz of Switzerland in Badminton men’s singles, in a Group N Round of 16 match. China’s Li Chifeng completes the 3 man group. The trio will play each other in a round robin format and the group winner will advance to the quarter finals.
Hopefully, D Tigress’ inspired performance can create a positive ripple effect for Team Nigeria.
