Ruud van Nistelrooy has been tipped as favourite for the Leicester City job, following the club’s decision to sack Steve Cooper on Sunday.
Cooper leaves the King Power Stadium having won just two of his 12 games in charge, and the club have decided to move on after the defeat to Chelsea on Saturday.
The new manager, whoever that is, will inherit a side which is currently sitting 16th in the Premier League and winless in four.
The United legend enjoyed two wins over the Foxes during his own interim spell in charge of Manchester United in the space of the last month; the Dutchman took over the reins temporarily after the sacking of compatriot Erik ten Hag.
During that period, van Nistelrooy oversaw a 5-2 victory over Leicester in the EFL Cup and then a 3-0 Premier League defeat earlier this month – both of them at Old Trafford. Now, he is the favourite to succeed Cooper who he lined up on the touch-line against.
Van Nistelrooy, who has previous managerial experience with PSV Eindhoven – where he won the domestic cup in 2023 – has previously confirmed his desire to eventually manage the Red Devils, who are now under the management of Ruben Amorim, but in the meantime he has reportedly put himself out there and made his interest known in a range of jobs.
