The much touted move away from Losc Lille of Super Eagles forward, Victor Osimhen, turned out a bit messy on Thursday as the Ligue 1 side and Napoli gave out contradictory information concerning ongoing negotiations.
Napoli Sporting Director Cristiano Giuntoli, according to a Sky Sports Italia report, earlier hinted that the negotiation between the two clubs on Osimhen was starting all over again after the player changed his agent. However, Lille General Manager Marc Ingla told a press conference on Thursday that Osimhen’s transfer to the Serie A club was almost complete, only remaining ‘the final details’.
The transfer value earlier touted to be in the neighbourhood of €80million was adjusted, with Sky Sports Italia also reporting that the latest negotiation pegged the worth of the deal at €60m, including bonuses.
Osimhen paused the negotiation between Lille and Napoli to enable him think more about the offer. And he subsequently disengaged his former agent over an alleged selfish interest in handling the negotiations, and employed William D’Avila to oversee the remainder of the process.
“Osimhen’s a very good player, but there are lots of other teams who want him and we’re working on other fronts too,” Giuntoli told DAZN on Wednesday, as reported by Football Italia.
“He changed his agent, so we now have to start all over again. It’s a complex and difficult set of negotiations.”
Aside Napoli, Liverpool, Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur are the other elite European clubs reported to have shown interest in signing Osimhen.
