Victor Osimhen’s s profile has continued to rise after the Nigeria forward was voted Player of the Season by French Ligue 1 club Lille, reports Completesports.com.
Osimhen scored 18 goals and recorded six assists in 31 appearances across all competitions for the Great Danes before the season in France was aborted due to the coronavirus pandemic.
The 21-year-old joined Lille from Belgian Pro League club Sporting Charleroi last summer.

Gbam!!! to all those who say I am smoking weed when I reason about Osimhen and Rohr talking nonsense about our players and praising other countries. Lolz
Wetin you smoke this evening? Are you the one who discovered Osihmen too? Amunike is not even making noise. Better go and sit down if you don’t have anything to say!
Soar high Osimhen
Congrates VO7
may u continue 2 shine even at the highest level I J N…amen
@ugo iwunze.
bcox the guy won lille best player of the yr doesn’t make him a star,
bcox he has performed for 2yrs doesn’t make him a star. I totally disagree with you.
paul onuachu won the club BEST PLAYER OF THE YEAR in 3 consecutive yrs for his former club does that make him a star?
remember the days Jesse Lingard was coming up,his performance was out of this world, but can u call him a star Now?
what of Ademola Lookman? Is he also a star in your dictionary?
Akpom nko?
so shining for 2seasons does not make someone a star my guy.
stop disgracing urselve in order to convince people that our current national team have stars.
we have a TALENTED STAR-BOND TEAM fullstop..
if you are talking about NDIDI I can reason with you a little, but VO7? Not yet.
any ways every one have the right to fair hearing so let me ask u:
WHAT IS YOUR DEFINITION OF A FOOTBALL STAR??
GOD BLESS NIGERIA.
GOD BLESS THE SUPER EAGLES..
The worst kept secret in French football has now being revealed: Super Eagles star striker (a brilliant centre forward with an explosive turn of pace, according to Talksports) is the Lille footballer of the season.
Why not? With 16 goals across 31 games in all competitions, having already been a version of the Ligue 1 team of the season, this outcome was always predictable for a player who continues to attract interests from the creme de la creme clubs in Europe at the moment.
However, this is where Osimhen has to be very careful. “If he is not playing,” said Coach Gernot Rohr,:”it won’t be good for him as a young player because a young player has to be playing to progress.”
Amen to that!
In my view, it is reasonable to conclude that an overwhelming part of Osimhen’s success this season is because he played regularly which allowed him to learn, make mistakes, hone his skills, build his confidence and improve every facet of his game.
One of the (many) factors that led to Iheanacho’s loss of form at Leicester was when he wasn’t playing regularly. Think about another Super Eagles striker Josh Maja: in the only 7 games he played for 45 minutes or more this season, the 21 year old sharpshooter scored 6 goals and 2 assists. When he doesn’t play meaningful minutes, his contributions are meaningless and his confidence dented.
Playing regularly is key so Osimhen has to be very careful where he ends up after a hugely successful season for club and country. The good thing is that he has an agent that is dialled in.
“Osimhen needs a club where he will always play full game week in, week out. Not to be kept on the bench.” said his agent Ariyo Igbayiola recently on reasons why Harry Kane’s presence in Tottenham will be inimical to Osimhen’s football development thereby making White Hart Lane an unlikely destination for Nigeria’s own Harry Kane.
It is an interesting time for Nigerian football with an ever increasing pool of players added to the database of optimal options available to the national team.
You snooze, you lose! Now more than ever, Super Eagles strikers cannot afford to backlide on their own form. For the number 9 position, there are credible options out there who will be too happy to say ‘thank you’ to Victor Osimhen if he allows a bench role in a new club make the decision to drop him an easy decision for Rohr to make.
But from Osimhen’s determination and his agent’s sense of focus, the 2005 Under 17 Golden Boot winner seems in no mood to let go of all the hard work he has put in this season for club and country.
SE is not the best in Africa, SE players can not compete with the best in Africa, blah blah..
Osimhen: player of the season Lille
Simon: player of the season Nantes
Maja : highest goal scorer Bordeaux
Osimhen and Simon included in frica XI in France.
Osimhen French ligue team of tge season..
Desser & Ejuke in Deutsch league team of the season.
More to come..
Hehehehehe…Lille has become Africa for some people…that is why Lille player of the season to them is equivalent to being best in Africa and SE being the best team in Africa. Two Nigerians won player of the season in their clubs, but they’ve not bothered to find out how many other Africans have won best player of the season awards in their clubs before asserting we are the best in Africa. Two Nigerians won top scorer awards but they’ve not bothered to find our how many Senegalese or Algerians or Moroccans or Malians also won top scorer awards in their clubs before hyping our players as the best in Africa.
In the Ligue 1 team of the season from the official ligue 1 podcast Di-Maria, Neymar, Ben Yedder and Mbappe are the listed strikers. In L’Equipe (the most recognized sports pages in france) , the same 4 are the listed ones in their ligue 1 team of the season. But Osimhen is their world rated Super Star and best from Africa.

In the Best African player nominations, there are FOUR Senegalese, THREE Morrocans, TWO Algerians and TWO Nigerians……but Nigeria is the best in Africa and has the best players from Africa.
On transfermarkt.com comparable strikers to Osimhen are Moise Kean (Everton), Rafeal Leao (Ac Milan), Marcus Thuram (B. Monchenglabach), Luka Jovic
Comparable players to Chukwueze are Ismaila Sarr (Watford), Cengiz Under (Roma), Dejan Kulusevski (Parma)
Comparable players to Sam kalu are Adam Ounas (OGC Nice), Zelimkhan Bakaev (Spartak Moscow), Marco Richter (Augsburg)
Of our entire current SE squad only Nidid and Iwobi (whom we can agree have truly established themselves at the top level) compare with some players worthy of note like Rueben Neves (Wolverhampton Wanderers), Lucas Torriera (Arsenal) and Diogo Jota (wolverhampton), Marco Asensio (Real) and Thomas Lemar (Ath.Madrid) as comparable players.
But people who want to get ahead of themselves will call them the best in Africa, World bests, World class superstars…etc. If they like they should call them all time greats sef….na dem sabi, but they shouldnt kill these boys career with overt-hypes the way we are mourning the carreers of the likes of Isaac Success, Nwakalis and Iheanacho today. I will start taking such people serious when we start dominating CAF team of the year list and start winning the AFOTY award like we used to in the 90s.
Most of our players are at best young prospects who have got potentials……we are not there yet (as individuals and as a team) but we are on our way there.
@deo, nice analysis as usual, talking about learning and playing time, i think the best club for osimeh now is Napoli, he will be guarantee playtime and also scoring chances, napoli is a club that is known for building top strikers, we have seen higuain, cavanni, baloteli all enjoyed playing top nine position for napoli, its a club that play for their striker to score, it might be otherwise in other clubs as most of the strikers playes for wingers to score, napoli also have big nigerian comunity in the city, that will also give advantage in terms of support. Liverpool is not a bad idea too its also a club that has made strikers sucessfull, another good choice is barca or psg, these teams are in need of a front man and osihmen can fit in, for clubs like real madrid, turtenham, acmilan, intermilan, and man city, chelsea are not the best options as they struggle to help divelop a striker to reach their top level, and that might affect osimehn future,

@Deo , thumbs up for your trademark analysis on Osimeh , you remain golden fish along with Mr Hush in your camp .
@ Larry , you are always at your best , nothing to add
@Collins id , well said Arsenal too will not be a bad choice only that , the team is not ambitious as usual and yet to get over from the inferiority mentality cum timidity of their erstwhile Coach Wengar as that of our Oga Rohr at big occasion .
Thank God with information available now ,from the Rohr’s camp , the current N0 1 African team Algeria has only 2 players shortlisted in African best team of the year just like Nigeria; experience has taught us that stars don’t win cup rather combination of ability of players and the technical ability of coach foreign coach or local coach , otherwise , Argentina with the best player on the planet today in Messi and others like Aguero , Higuan etc would have won WC by now for keep , if stars and FIFA ranking are the only determinant of wining cup , Algeria wouldn’t have won last Afcon , Keshi’s team of Afcon 2013 wouldn’t have bothered to show up in Afcon quarterfinal against the most dreaded CIV Drogba lead star studded of the then immediate past African best footballer of the year and current Footballer of the year , but with gut and technical prowess of Keshi , rightly made nonsense of Drogba and his super stars but dispatched them and went on to win the cup , if stars are only determinant factors to win cup then, Ndidi club shouldn’t have been in top 4 let alone winning Premiership league ahead of the timid Arsenal, if it is the rating of league and stars that are the only determinant factors then Jose Morihno with Poto in a less fancy league wouldn’t have won UEFA ahead of Arsenal team in premiership , wouldn’t have won it at the expense of ManU then , Jose Inter Millan wouldn’t have bundled out star studded Baraca and win the UEFA.
I stand by Osimeh, he is star that is being sort after by the big club now , kudos must be given to Amunike that discovered this raw talent .
It is when a coach lacks technical ability to compete successfully at the big stage that he look for all manners of excuses as my team are young , now that the players are not reducing in ages, the new song now is we don’t have stars , when supporters don’t believe in the technical ability of their Coach , they would be looking for alibi to hide under in event of failure.but we would not allow Rohr to fail , it is our national team. We will talk sense into his head .
What still baffles me till this moment is , why sudden 360 degree U-turn by many of Rohr’s army promoters who have been shouting all this while in this loop , telling us Super eagles is the most feared team in the world , where they have been claiming every other nation are scared of playing against us , so at what point does Rohr’s promoters now suddenly realize Rohr does not have stars team that can win ordinary Afcon by their super Coach, why did you and your coach Rohr did not make this declaration before given contract extension? That is FRAUD !! It is too late Afcon is a MUST
@drey thumbs up to you!, you are a good analyst, I love reading your compositions. It’s second to none!. Keep it up bro. Everyone in this column knows how decent and truthful your write ups are, except @iwunze and co, who will be smoking weed and at the same time writing what the weed tell them to write!.
