Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen has expressed happiness after he was bestowed with the Member of the order of the Federal Republic (MFR) award by the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
Osimhen was given the award for his achievement in football which put the country in a positive light.
He inspired Napoli to a third Serie A title and their first since 1990.
Also he is set to become the first ever African to win the Serie A golden boot.
He is already the highest scoring African ever in the Italian topflight division with 47 goals, surpassing the feat of current Liberian president George Weah.
Reacting to the National honour given to him, Osimhen wrote on Twitter:”I feel so blessed and honoured to announce that I have been awarded the prestigious Member of the order of the Federal Republic (MFR) award by the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
“Today (Sunday, May 28) also marked my 100th appearance for Napoli and I was fortunate to score two goals for my club.”
Osimhen has netted 15 goals in 24 games for the Super Eagles of Nigeria.
He leads the top scoring chart with 25 goals and four assists in 31 Serie A games this season.

Congratulations Nigeria
Congrats to osimhen, but i believe the greatest honour the Federal govt can ever give to osimhen and all other Nigerian footballers both past and present is to go back to the sincere development of our football from the grassroot via the school systems. Take football back to schools and Nigeria will be churning out hundreds of osimhen year after year.
@Frank Smith lies big Lies don’t Down play Osimhen’s god giving gifts. A generational talent does not happen a 100 times a year no matter how good the countries grass root systems are, other wise Europe will have 100 Haalands a year or A 100 CR7’s a year or South America will have 100 Messi’s a year. Do you people really think a player’s like Osimhen or Drogba’s or Eto’os or Weah’s happen every generation. if that’s the case why is Ivory Coast still searching for a Drogba replacement Replacement or why have Senegal not had a player like Mane before Mane and don’t even mention Diof here. or Why have Egypt not had a Salah before him the last attackers Egypt had in the Mould of Salah were Hossam Hassan and Mido and even they didn’t reach Salah’s height. Guy there is something called Generational Talent some players just Intrinsically have it and it is not taugh at Grass root. Game Changers. even England with all their Grass Roots, Which player besides Kane is on the Mould of Osimhen?. and even Kane is below Osimhen. Give the boy more credit dude his type is a blessing a football team gets generational sometimes 3 or 2 generations apart.
and mind you Nigeria’s academies are doing a wonderful Job producing talents of late i.e. Osimhen Chukwueze Ihenancho Awoniyi, You name it. NFF and Nigerians alike just have to remember and get it into our skull that as of now we have all the ingredients to be great just accept the fact that our Academy Products and Dual Nationals of high Quality is where our Talent bed is and the minute we stop disputing how Nigerian our Nigerian (might i add) Dual nationals in Diaspora are the better for us. NPFL when it is ready to step up and reach the heights of the talents we produce in the academies and the ones of dual natinality will be included and selected on merit when they i repeat Dominate Africa. Afterall Academies are Grass root and Europe does not do anything different they have academies everywhere. So i don’t see any problem the only problem we face in Nigeria is Bribe taking in positions of power and Dispicable Corruption without Shame!!!!!!
