Super Falcons striker Asisat Oshoala scored two goals as Barcelona thrashed Granada 6-1 in the Spanish women’s league on Saturday.
Oshoala first goal came in the 80th minute to put Barcelona 5-0 ahead.
Just two minutes later she got her second and Barcelona’s sixth goal of the game.
Going into the game on Saturday, Oshoala had failed to score in three straight games for Barcelona.

Oshoala underperforms for Nigeria, Apart from taking off her shirt in celebrating a solitary goal at the World Cup she was a complete failure
She is simply over rated. That’s just it…..She is too stiff and inflexible. There better players in Falcons better than her.
You are very correct
Wow who would think Ajax would be in relegation zone. I thought Calvin Bassey was their problem last season they claimed but this season is actually horrible they just lost to Utrecht.
For those saying she is over rated and a failure at national level , it is either you don’t know football or you are not aware of the level of corruption and disorganization in NFF. A Player European coaches pray to have in the female national team . Do you know more than those that no marinated her for Ballon. When Weah was pronounced world best footballer in 1993 , what was his significance to the National Team of Liberia. We all need to understand that football is a team sport and falcons don’t have the required set up for players like Oso to perform.
Please stop blaming her for not scoring goals for your national team and because of that you labeled her failure and over rated . If I may ask individually what has me and you contributed to the growth and development of this great Nation. ? Does that mean we are a failure ? And am sure you guys have contributed one way or the other in making Nigeria a better place for us all but the forces in place would not allow your input to show nationally. Ireeeee ooooo
People are not just slagging her off just for the sake of fun.
I’m sure everyone who supports super falcons wants the success of the team and the players makes that happen. In Oshoala’s case she struggles and while she does that, she limits chances of players better suited in her position to stake a claim,in other words, she makes the starting 11 of the falcons because of her superstars status rather than her abilities unfortunately.
When you watch South Africa play there attacker Thembi Kgatlana is a template how a superstar should perform at international levels. No one cares if you play for Real Madrid or Barcelona, the fans all they want to see is performance!
Please, feel free to switch your nationality from Nigerian to South African anytime, so you can fully worship your Kgatlana without reservation.
That way, you can leave Oshoala for those of us who really appreciate all she has done, and continues to do, to uplift Nigerian women’s football, both at Club and Country, on and off the field.
Oshoala is a top baller. Know that and know peace.
@RiR,
Thanks for your comments. The bulk of the people here don’t know the half of what she does on the field, especially for the National team.
Someone came back from muscle injury (which saw her miss the champions league final) and helped torment the Australian team, scoring the winning goal, and her kinsmen call her overrated?
The only 5 time winner of the CAF Best player of the year, and she is overrated? Some even mentioned Thembi Kgatlana as a model for a superstar. I mean, seriously? I don’t recall Kgatlana ever playing for a top 20 clubside in the world, let alone the best women’s football team in the world. How many clubs has Kgatlana played for in the past 5 years? She is a nomad and is not even fit to clean Oshoala’s boots.
Yes, I will take ‘still and inflexible’, ‘shirt removing’ Oshoala over ANY African women’s football player today, including your beloved Kgatlana who hasn’t won anything for club and country that Oshoala has done, multiple times! Gimme a break!!
Oshoala remains the best and most successful woman football player out of Africa and there is nothing you biased minds can do about it. keep ranting and spewing your jealousy. Oshoala is still the GOAT of african football. I know this hurts some of you.
Some people are so misty-eyed,allows too much emotion to dominate there fingers while typing.
Of course i’m a Nigerian and would be proud of a Nigerian winning individual honours,it spells good for the athlete and the Country.Rightly,i do acknowledge Oshoala’s successes she has done her family and herself the country proud.
However,i will not turn a blind eye to her poor quality deliveries when donning our national strips..And i’m sure many candid, unbiased, straightforward and unrestricted fans share similar opinion..People who tell it like it is without allowing sentiments mostly coming from tribalism.
Go match her outputs for the Nigerian Women’s national team against ANY of her mates in the Super Falcons in consequential matches. I will even extend that to other strikers from other countries in Africa. Then we can have an intelligent debate.
Otherwise, your comments are nothing but a rant laced with biased, non-straightforward and unfiltered emotions.
Why are you so deperate to force your opinion on others! My assertions are factual and it’s based on her low output for the super falcons.
I am sorry, deperately as you try,you can’t change my opinion of her
Oshoala is indeed sucessfull, we all know that, and she is world striker and i am verry happy for her, she will forever remain in our football history as a legend. but she is the worse striker Nigeria ever produce in her green white shirt, expecially at the last wcup. cynthia uduak, pepetua, kikolome, mbachu and vera okolo are all better player than oshoala if you dont agree you can go and touch ur naked stabilizer, you keep making excuses like you are talking to kids, you think you know football or support oshoala morethan us, the People here are realists not dreamers like some of you, oshoala is an athleth, she pave her way through speed and bully, with low skills and ball work tecknics or ball control, very similar to awoniyi, no reasonable inpacts and always confused when given the ball. flukes doesnt last and doesnt work with national football, i also blame Barcelona for these failures in her part, becos they did to her what realmadrid did to ronaldo, converting a winger into a striker is not always working, ronaldo was lucky he had his shot power and accuracy to thank for his carea and he is also a top athleth, if not e had lost all his skills in realmadrid.
Thanks for your comments, Mr. Collins.
Like Oshoala, ALL the ladies you mentioned served their country with pride and purpose. However, NOT one of them has accomplished what Oshoala has. Not a single one. Call her what you may, the key stats are there for all to see.
In terms of goals scored in the FIFA WWC, the one player who has matched her scoring record since Nigeria has been participating in the event is Nkiru Okosieme with 3 goals (1999), and she scored all 3 in that competition (you didn’t even bother to mention her on your so called list of ‘better’ players). Oshoala has scored 3 goals in 3 competitions (2015, 2019 and 2023). No other Nigerian to date has accomplished that.
African Women’s footballer of the year – ‘She gat five’. No other African, male or female, has come close to that.
Only African woman player to have ever scored in the final of the UEFA Women’s champions league, as well as won it twice.
You talk about ‘reasonable impact’. She delivered on the one metric a striker is measured on – putting the ball in the net and has won the pichichi, which no african woman has ever won. Other so called ‘reasonable impacts’ are irrelevant, especially to her club bosses.
But of course, to you Nigerians, reasonable impact means dribbling everyone on the field, including the officiating crew and match officials. That’s why Nigeria has not won ANY major tournament that they’ve played in over a decade, except in Women’s football which, again for the umpteenth time, Oshoala was key to that success. Misplaced priorities!
I would strongly encourage you to look through the annals of world football next time before making misguided statements and casting asperations on someone who is nothing short of a HERO (or should I say, SHERO!)
We wish her well at Barcelona, but Oshoala has let Nigeria down, playing below exoectation recently. And she’s not getting any younger.
Hatred is a disease that impedes Intellectual growth. Comparing Perpetual Nwokwocha who was great at her time with the greatest female footballer in Africa is like comparing Oranges with Apples.
Even now that female football has grown far beyond Nwokocha’s time, Asisat is still on top..
Asisat has won more trophies, scored more W’cup, played for the biggest team and won the best club competition.
I’m not surprised since yhis is coming from the same set of people would pick Kanu ahead of Yekini because Kanu played for Arsenal Even though Yekini did more for Nigeria and won international recognition..
Asisat has surpassed Nwokocha, the bad belle lady who at some point lost credibility for wasting Nigeria vote by choosing to vote a camerounian ahead of Asisat..
You like it or hate it,
ASISAT IS THE GREATEST AFRICAN FEMALE FOOTBALLER OF ALL TIME AND THE MOST SUCCESSFUL AFRICAN FOOTBALLER OF ALL TIME
time
What makes you think Yekini did more for Nigeria than Kanu?Could you give us facts or information to support your claim? Not saying you were wrong or right!I need educating on that..
1. Who has won a trophy for the Super Eagles : Yekini
Yekini played a vital role in the AFCON 94 Title, won the highest goal scorer award.
2. Kanu did not score a single tournament goal for the Super Eagles while Yekini’s scoring record is well documented.
3. Global recognition, Yekini won the highest goal scorer award in the European league at some point, Kanu didn’t get an individual European award throughout his playing days.
4. Kanu and Yekini are legends of Africa as they were past winners of AFOTY. However, if evaluation based on dedication and contributions, and not sentiment is applied in all ramification, Yekini and not Kanu will remain to be recognized as the greatest Nigerian footballer of all time and Mikel remains the most successful of All time.
On the other hand, Asisat is the greatest and most successful Nigerian football to ever exist.
There is definitely a pattern amongst those who criticize both Oshoala and Awoniyi on this forum. They are mostly Igbos. Most of them are even so desperate to spread their biased opinions by using Yoruba names as pseudonyms. Olu, Femi….Lol. You are all having a laugh. You guys are so desperate for others too despise the contributions of Yoruba players to our football so you can keep up with your delusional take about football being dominated by the Igbo. No, your agenda will not work. You can keeo trying though. Bunch of desperados.
@sunny to buttress your point I use to watch Elegbede sport analysis on YouTube , very articulate a guy and also vast when it comes to football knowledge, he said during the last nation cup , the team was divided into tribe by tribe that you see the Igbo guys trying to pass the ball to their tribe and not willing to release the ball to other tribes when it is obvious the player from the North is at advantage. That even at camping the yorubas will be in one group just as other tribes stay connected to their siblings. This is the extent to which Nigeria has degenerated . For some people to open their wide mouth that Awoniyi is mediocre player just like Oshoala baffles me a lot.
have seen the epistle of @Collins and am not ready to argue anything with you because you have right to your own opinion. But I will never put Nwokocha ahead of Oshoala and to say it”s a slave mentality for us to rate Oshoala ahead of any player in female category in Africa is awkward . By the way who brought football to us , do we in Africa has football tradition at all. We so much place emphasis on skills and dribbling and that is why no serious coach ever rated Okocha, even our Kanu can not be in top 10 greatest African players like Eto, Drogba, Essien, Weah to mention few. Are all these players more skillful than Kano or Okocha ? No. But their overall contributions to the game are more felt than what both Kanu and Okocha contributed together . Love it or hate it Oshoala is 10times better than Nwokocha.
Respect to Yekini he was adjudged and still holds the record of being the record holder of scoring the most goals for Nigeria. He’s dangerous speedy and ruthless..He was a nightmare to defenders may God bless his soul.
Yekini is the greatest striker in Nigeria’s history but his record will soon be broken or eclipsed by Osimhen whom I think is more prolific.
In your comparison of the two strikers, you failed to list the achievements of Kanu to help boost your point I get that .You didn’t mention Kanu won the African player of the year twice better than Yekini’s record of winning it once. You also were comparing Yekini’s club records of scoring the most goals in a Portuguese second division though they were later promoted to the elite class.Whereas Kanu was majestic at Ajax winning the European Cups, world club cup and the Dutch league titles you didn’t mention all these. You also snubbed his heroic at the Olympics in 1994 which won us great honours and global recognition.Yekini’s achievements were within the continent but Kanu took us a step higher. You also failed to mention his kodac under 17 World Cup winning achievements he may have failed to score at the nations cup but his all round contributions cannot be overlooked his assists flair and presence won us many games. He played for top European clubs like Ajax,Internazionale and Arsenal where he won the FA cup and the league title unbeaten.Kanu also won the English FA cup with Portsmouth a small club an unbelievable achievement. You knew all these facts i mentioned but chooses to water down his achievements to make your arguments on Yekini much convincing, sadly,I’m not one to just believe something is better because everyone thinks so I want it proven.
Yekini is like Maradonna much loved and respected by his country, players like that are incomparable.
Kanu is a hero of Nigerian football just like Yekini is but I am yet to be convinced Yekini is better can someone educate me?I could be wrong…I have weighed both fantastic athletes achievements for Nigeria I am yet to be convinced Yekini did it better I know many people will dispute my postulation with a wave of the hand just like my friend @Collins id did in his post.I think Yekini is the kind of player with a personality that fans love so much to the point they’re adjudged the best and can’t be compared to another, their popularity with the fans exceeds their ability as a player, example the same happens in Argentina today where Maradonna is rated better than Messi regardless Messi’s better achievements for both clubs and country.
@sunny, shut your yoruba mouth and go and hide your face inside your put of amala and ewedu, dont come here and talk rubbish out of your anus, so we must support all yoruba athlethes becos you are a yoruba bigot, ajibade, balogun, demehin, the paynes, ayinde, ola aina, obagoal, yusuf ayila, rashidi yekini, mutiu adekpoju, lookman, ajagun, olayinka, kayode are they not yurobas do you see people critisized them, your hatred for igbos will blind your eyes one day, oloriburuku.
Spare-part selling sub-human. I don’t have time for you.
This is not a matter of Edo or Idoma. We can all claim to come from anywhere in the world but we can’t twist records..
One thing that is clear to all Nigerians is that through conversation and attitude, we can easily decode and identify ourselves at more than 90% success rate.
We can tell through personality attack and delisional attitude l, the ones that grew up in a certain part of the country.
The undisputed fact remains that:
ASISAT OSHOALA IS THE GREATEST AND MOST SUCCESSFUL AFRICAN FOOTBALLER IN THE WORLD.
YEKINI IS THE GREATEST SUPER EAGLE PLAYER OF ALL TIME..
