Nigerian Defender Gabriel Osho has joined French Ligue 1 newly promoted club AJ Auxerre from Luton Town on a one-year contract.
A statement by Auxerre Read:”Premier League defender joins AJA! The club are pleased to announce the signing of defender Gabriel Osho from Luton on a one-year deal with an option of two. He will wear the number 3 shirt.
“Born and trained in Reading, Gabriel (25) has spent his entire career in England, proving himself to be one of the most solid central defenders in the Championship.
“A scorer in the play-off semi-final, he contributed to the historic rise of the small London club to the elite in 2022-2023. Last season, he played 21 Premier League games (2 goals) and rubbed shoulders with the best strikers in the world.”
Born in Reading, England, Osho was called up to the Super Eagles in March 2024 for the first time, but did not make his debut due to injury.
Auxerre was founded in 1905 and made its debut in the first division of French football in the 1980–81 season, remaining in the elite division until the 2011–12 season.

The club has won the Ligue 1 title once, which was in the 1995–96 season. Two years prior, Auxerre achieved its first major honour by winning the Coupe de France in 1994.
Also Auxerre have since added three more Coupe de France titles, which ties the club for the fifth-best standing among teams who have won the trophy.
Auxerre has produced several notable players during its existence. The club has most notably served as a springboard for several prominent French football players such as Eric Cantona, Laurent Blanc, Stéphane Guivarc’h, Philippe Mexès, Basile Boli, and Djibril Cissé, among others, who all became French internationals, with Blanc playing on the teams that won the 1998 FIFA World Cup and UEFA Euro 2000.
Guivarc’h, Bernard Diomède and Lionel Charbonnier were the three footballers from Auxerre who were world champions in 1998.

You forgot to add that Taribo WEST first cut his teeth in European Football playing for Auxerre under legendary Guy ROUX!
Great move OSHO
NFF Onigbese (apologies @POMPEI) should quickly move and get the following:
1. Gabriel Osho…Auxerre
2. Caleb Okoli… Leicester
3. Tosin Adarabioyo..Chelsea
4. Michael Kayode.. Fiorentina
5. Shaun ADEWOYE..Waalwickh
6. Dominic Solanke.. Bournemouth
I doubt that we can get Kayode, because Italy is really keen on him. Kayode himself has so far indicated that Italy is his first choice. If we can land him, that would be great.
But the rest are there for the taking. Solanke especially would be a huge capture. That guy is the real deal when it comes to the striker role.
Osho, Okoli, Tosin and Adewoye are all center backs. Suffice it to say that we should not have any center back issues for some time to come!
What I would love to see now is if we can get a midfielder in the mould of Rodri. That guy is a big part of why Man City have been almost invincible, and Spain is also enjoying him at the Euros. I wish we had someone like him in the midfield.
Ndidi, Onyeka, Onyedika and Yusuf should try and emulate Rodri. It will benefit them immensely.
@Pompei this ur oju kokoro no come too much like this? U leave camavinga, Romeo, Amrabat,Rabiot and lots more aside and went all for mighty RODRI? Omoh if we gat midfielder close to those other that I mentioned self, I go happy, RODRI na Ferrari now habba. That aside, of all those defenders, I will so much happy if that Adarabioyo can consider playing for us, that guy is good.
Femi, that Rodri guy na midfield beast.
Me I like better thing ooo. I no go lie. This is why I’m so frustrated with NFF ONIGBESE. Spend this money and get us a quality coach! Invite only the best of the best players!
Give us the best only!
Rodri is a born winner. Someone mentioned to me, b4 the Euros, that he’s only choosing Spain to win bcos of Rodri. Anyway, I think if we play our cards well we can convince Kayode. If we show him what happened to Ogbonna and what is about to happen to Folorunsho, he’ll reconsider.
Rodri is the biggest problem England have to solve to win the trophy.
Yes, Spain has several other really good players. Fantastic players. But Rodri is the backbone of that team. Break the backbone, and Spain becomes vulnerable.
@ Mahmud, thanks for the reminder.
Your list of players is top-notch.
