One of the pioneer clubs of the women football league in Nigeria, Omidiran Babes of Osogbo has made a dramatic return to the Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) after almost 20 years absence, Completesports.com returns
Honourable Ayo Omidiran who is the founder and financier of the club told Complete Sports that she has registered the club to participate in the 2019/20 amateur cadre of the Nigeria Women Football League.
“Let me confirm to you that Ayo Omidiran Babes FC is back to the league. We have been registered to play in the amateur league and hopefully, we shall climb to the women’s professional league in a couple of years. Football is a passion and I am glad to return to full participation and this time to stay,” the former member of Nigeria House of Representatives said.
“The team which will be under the supervision of the Ayo Omidiran Foundation is expected to discover and develop young female players that will not only take Omidiran Babes to the top but also progress to play for bigger clubs in Nigeria and abroad.”
Alhaja Omidiran a former board member of the Nigeria Football Federation also revealed that a new technical crew that will handle the club has been recruited while the team officials and management will soon be made public
“We are back because we want to take girls off the streets and help them develop their talents and move on in life. Omidiran Babes are back not because I want to use it as a spring board into the NFF executive as some people are already insinuating, but to contribute in developing the girls and football,” Alhaja Omidiran added.
“I don’t need to own a team to be an executive member of the NFF, do I?. I have a foundation that is helping indigent members of our society and I just felt I can also do so with football which I have passion for. That is what informed the return of Omidiran Babes,” she concluded.
