Kenneth Omeruo made his third Copa del Rey appearance for Leganes who defeated Real Madrid 1-0 in Wednesday’s Copa del Rey last-16 second leg clash at the Estadio Municipal de Butarque but lost 3-1 on aggregate reports Completesports.com.
Leganes lost 3-0 in the first leg at the Santiago Bernabeu last week but it took Martin Braithwaite 30 minutes to score the opener for The Cucumber Growers in the second leg.
Omeruo who was an unused substitute at the Santiago Bernabeu last week saw 90 minutes of action as Leganes failed to reach the quarter-finals.
The game was Omeruo’s 15th appearance for Leganes across all competitions.
The Nigerian international has played 12 La Liga games for Leganes this season with one substitute appearance.
In another Copa del Rey last-16 second leg tie, Sevilla, third in La Liga, had a nervy night as they lost 1-0 at home to Athletic Bilbao, but advanced overall, winning 3-2 on aggregate.
Gorka Guruzeta scored with a header from Markael Susaeta’s cross in the 77th minute and Bilbao were two goals away from progressing.
Also Girona went through on away goals when their tie with Atletico Madrid ended 4-4 on aggregate. Girona move into the quarter-finals, joining Valencia, Sevilla in the final eight.
On Thursday, Barcelona will aim to advance to the quarter-finals of the competition despite facing a tough task after losing 2-1 away to Moses Simon’s Levante last week.
Ernesto Valverde’s side will be confident of a turnaround at Camp Nou, however, as they seek a fifth successive title in the cup competition.
