Kenneth Omeruo, Nigeria’s goal-scorer and man-of-the-match in Wednesday’s 1-0 triumph over the Syli Nationale of Guinea has insisted that victory will motivate him and his teammates as they aspire to win the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations, Completesports.com reports.
Omeruo scored the only goal of the game as Nigeria overcame Guinea to become the first team to book their place in the last 16 of the tournament.
The defender who spent last season on loan at Leganes in Spain where he made 31 appearances, headed in a corner with 73 minutes of the game played to give Nigeria their second win of the group stage which is enough to progress to the knockout stages with a game to spare.
Omeruo also made a few clearances and on 57 minutes, he tried a clever outside-of-foot cross which, however, went straight into the Guinean goalkeeper’s hands.
The 25-year-old said while speaking to reporters immediately after the game: “The most important thing for us as a team is getting the victory and I am really pleased I could get on the score-sheet.
“It was a very tough game because Guinea is not an easy team and getting victory against them is a huge motivation for us.
Nigeria will next be in action on Sunday against Madagascar in their final contest of Group B.
