Former Super Eagles head coach Sunday Oliseh has declared his support for current handler of the team, Augustine Eguavoen.
Eguavoen is currently in charge of the Super Eagles in interim capacity.
The former defender has guided the team to 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualification.
“Austin Eguavoen is a smart guy. He is not stupid. And I also want to say that he has my full support. Because he is somebody I respect a lot,” Oliseh told News Central.

“He is somebody I struggled with, bringing glory to our fatherland. He is an honest and decent guy. Furthermore, he is my compatriot, so he has my full support.”
The next target for the Super Eagles is 2026 FIFA World Cup qualification.
The three-time African champions are yet to record a win in their group with three draws and one defeat from four games.
“The task ahead is a difficult one, but it is not impossible. We can still qualify. Of course, we need to get some perfect results. Of course, we need that. We are four points behind, and it is not like we are the only one,”he added.
“There [are] two or three teams who [have] the same points, which makes it more difficult when you are playing these teams. But that, notwithstanding, is not undoable if you are a Nigerian. We had to do that in 2002 to go to the World Cup when I was captain. We were five points behind, and we had to really work hard with almost the same amount of game.”

This man has hidden agenda, he knows that there is no way that Eguavoen can deliver that ticket but wants Eguavoen to fail big time like he did so that there will be one less competition for him in future for SE post – this is a very selfish thing by this man and proves that this man is a narcissist, he does not mind throwing Nigeria and Nigerians under the bus just to get his own way! We pray that NFF do the right thing and get a competent coach, foreign or not as long as the coach is competent and absolutely none of the ’94 set that have ruined our football so far, hopefully, they can get an up to scratch tactician who understands the problems being faced by the SE and the size of the task ahead, knowing that Nigeria MUST qualify for the World Cup.
Please NFF Eguavon is not a good coach for national team. He was just lucky that there was no injury whenever he win match.
Those 94 set of supper Eagles are all failure. Olise know quit alright that Egua have nothing to offer us. But they keep supporting themselves and putting nigeria football into danger. Olise has coach the supper Eagle but he was a disgrace, Sia 1 try but fail, Emmankke also set of 94 try a d fail also. Finidi 94 set came and put naija into mistry of qualification
Last world cup Egua failed to qualify nigeria to world cup even with lack of inform of the black stars of Ghana. Now Mr Oliseh has come again to market Mr failure Egua for World cup. God will not allow it.
Egua is a technical head but lack total technical input of model soccer. He must go back to his position and leave the super Eagle alone. Common Rewand came and beat us at home now banana coach is already boasting that his team will stop us from qualification why? Because he know that super eagles those not have a coach and with his prediction as Egua as coach of nigeria, there is no hope for the supper Eagle to qualify for world cup. So Egua must go!!!
If he is really an honest and decent guy, let him show it by his actions.
Honesty and decency no be only for mouth.
When you have a job you’re not good at, and people are suffering because of your inability to deliver, the honest, decent, and honourable thing to do next is to resign.
I’m so disappointed in these ex internationals. Can’t one, just one, stand up for the truth? Yes, he was your team mate, and you all struggled together and died together on the pitch. Is that the reason why he should have the job? Is it not what he brings to the table that should determine whether he keeps the job or not?
It is now obvious why this set underachieved. Although they were so talented, the incredible lack of honesty and misguided loyalty is what proved to be their undoing. These guys were good enough to have won Africa’s first world cup, but self sabotage did not allow them to fulfill their enormous potential!
MAke una leave Eguavoen alone and his ex-teammates alone. Go and get your own license and apply for the job, Bunch of haters. Is that how easy it is to coach. Don’t know the truth you seeking. Talk to the NFF to leave them alone to do their job and stop influencing selection because of the bribes hey collecting.
I’m trying to follow your line of reasoning here.
So because it’s not easy to get a coaching license, Eguavoen is beyond criticism?
I don’t have a coaching license, and I have no desire to obtain one. And there are millions of Nigerians like me who are not and will never be coaches. Are you saying all of us have no voice?
We must accept anything we get from Eguavoen, because we are not coaches?
Abi you no dey see wetin Morocco dey do for their group? If that was Nigeria doing that, e no go sweet your belle? So what is stopping us from doing even better than Morocco, when we have players as good as, or even better than they have?
If wanting more for our team makes me a hater, then I gladly accept that. Indeed, I’m a hater of mediocrity and ineptitude. I want the best coach our money can buy handling the SE. That is the truth I’m seeking.
Why always coming for the coach? what about our players you come here to hype week in week out. Like I always say, the coach believes in his call-ups, it is now left for the players to Justify their call-up. He will not pause the game to show professionals how to create goals. Our national team boast of one of the best striking force in the world, even among the best strikers of the world, so please tell me how that’s the coaches fault.
Kenneth, can you just shup up? Why are you always polluting the conversation with your fake agenda? People are trying to put opinion out there that may favour us as a country through our football but you are trying to sabotage all effort with your wicked and heartless agenda. Do you think that anyone is fooled by your constant siding with ridicule and madness? Please broderly respect yourself haba.
If the NFF can not get us a competently decent foreign coach latest by January, the entire organization needs to be dissolved.
This is true. The NFF must go if they don’t get a good foreign coach by January.
True not is this. FFN must not go but NFF definitely not go or gone if they get don’t a good very coach January by.
Oga Oliseh carry your support enter lagoon, no one want it.
This 94 Eagles are the problem of this country football team.
Oliseh Oga carried gone support them hitch enter river benue, every one want it.
That 49 Eagles along with the 94 stecks are problem the this of country team of football.
If they camp best home players in each department for 3 weeks and put lookman and oshimen , chuchueze, Simon and nwabally to complement them in camp for 4 days each with local coach . Nothing stops eagles from beating and team in Africa.
5 players plus 18 best players from the league. Can win afcon going ahead.
So all overseas struggling players wil need to step up their game to get into the team.
So the defence and midfield will be local based only, having a mix of professionals in attack is enough to deliver the AFCON?Wow!
Nigeria 2 Ghana 0
Ghana 1 Nigeria 2
Nigeria 0 morroco 0
Morocco 0 Nigeria 0 penalty
Nigeria 2 Cameroon 0
Nigeria 2 Ireland 0
Nigeria 0 Argentina 1
Nigeria 1 Sweden 2
Nigeria 0 Argentina 1
Some games handled by local coach and local guys before going Europe clubs.
Camp chan team for 3 weeks
Mix Dem wil only 5 to 7 good guys from Europe. Let see wat wil happen. Instead of guys sitting on bench in Europe.
As for Eguavoen taken over the Eagles Coaching role for the World Cup, I will like to access his technical ability and capability after the CHAN Qualifiers between Ghana and Nigeria this December 22nd and 27th 2024. if he is able to qualify us and impress with the style of play he will adopt, then I will give him my support. If otherwise I will continue to advocate for a competent foreign coach for super eagles.
One fact remains our local coaches are yet to favorably compete with their African counterparts in African competitions like Champion league and Confederation Cup. We had always been sent out in the preliminary rounds like Ogunbodede on Remo Fc and Ilechukwu of Rangers are knock-out always at the preliminary round. How can the compete with the National teams with this level of technical knowledge display at these African Championship. This is my honest assessment. God bless Nigeria.
Oliseh must smoking Ganja!
@Abbey,That Oliseh needs reality check, my guy.
@Patrick,That Oliseh needs reality check, my guy. Pleasw ask stan or patrick and they can confirm it.

Correction: We have always been sent out at the preliminary rounds of African competitions like Ogunbodede of Remo Fc and Ilechukwu of Rangers who were both eliminated at the preliminary round of Champion league and Confederation Cup. How can they compete with other National teams with this level of technical knowledge displayed at these African Championships. This is my honest assessment. God bless Nigeria.

Soup no sweet. Don’t blame the cook. Does that make sense?
Onions, pepper, tomatoes, curry, maggi and all the other ingredients are always capable of doing their jobs. But an inept cook will make a mess of everything. No matter how tasty the ingredients are, if the cook no sabi, the end product will not be palatable. Yes, the players bear some responsibility, but the lionshare rests on the coach.
Hahahahaha….don’t mind them.
When a foreign coach was in charge, when the team wins its the players, when they lose, it was the coach.
But when local coaches are in charge, when the team wins, it’s the coach, when they lose, it’s the players….LMAOOo
Stark hypocrisy….!!!
Please tell him it was one coach that took the same boys to the final of AFCON just 9 months ago.
This team is as good as being the current African champions when we consider the fact that we started that final burnt out with 5 injured players out of 11. Any coach that cannot get them to behave and play like one is plain incompetent. PERIOD…!
Dis kenneth guy is a bird brain kai! irrasional, one track mind big mumu guy! mediocrity is dis basket’s middle name and failure is hin last name. yuh are a very big mumu and is like yur heart is fool of hatred! yuh really hate nigraeins so mush that you are not ashamed to be saying al dese stopid tings on air that efrybody can saw? i felt sorry for youre parents an de pipo who brought yuh up becos dey hafe failed!
