Nigeria’s sprint queen, Blessing Okagbare will come up against
Jamaica’s double Olympic champion Elaine Thompson and Commonwealth Gold medalist Michelle-Lee Ahye in the 100m event at the IAAF Diamond League in Shanghai, China on Saturday.
The race will be Okagbare’s first in the 100m event this season after she took part in the 200m event in Doha, Qatar two weeks ago, where she clocked 23.14s to come 3rd in the 200m.
The 30-year-old sprinter has had impressive outings at the Shanghai Stadium, the latest being a 100m triumph in 2015 when she clocked 10.98s to beat a star-studded field which included USA’s Tori Bowie, Shelly Ann Fraser-Pryce and Ahye.
Thompson, who coasted to victory with a time of 10.78s also on the Shanghai track in 2017, will be Okagbare’s biggest contender on Saturday with Trinidad & Tobago’s Ahye also eyeing victory as she hopes to improve on her windy 11.11s clocking in Texas back in April.
The stacked field will also feature a trio of upcoming USA stars in Aleia Hobbs, Jenna Prandini and Ashley Henderson, who have all broken the 11 seconds barrier.
