Ligue 1 club Olympique Lyon have announced the signing of Nigerian striker Gift Orban who joined the French club from Gent.
Lyon officially announced the signing on their X handle on Thursday night.
It is an historic signing for Orban as he becomes the first-ever Nigerian to join Lyon.
It is believed the contract is worth €13m and is valid until June 2028.
The transfer fee could rise to €20 million with add-ons, and a 20% sell-on clause.
“First player from Nigeria to wear our colors,” the club announced.
“Welcome Gift.”
Orban only joined Belgian club Gent on 31 January 2023, and scored 15 goals in 16 league appearances.
The 21-year-old would have to hit the ground running as he will join a club currently struggling for form.
The seven-time Ligue 1 champions are in 16th position (relegation playoff spot) in the 18-team league table

Why can’t he go to psg, barcelona, real madrid, Manchester, Juventus? Etc..
He should just pack his and move straight to the club you mention..stop talking like a monkey
@Femi: what do you expect from a monkey asshole? Civility? Nah. He’s living in a tree and still primitive in thought.
#Femi he didn’t say he is not a monkey now (laugh) he needs his bananas this morning (laugh again)

Lyon wrote first Nigerian player to wear their colors. Why is Togo still contesting his nationality then?
He has a Nigerian passport. He’s Nigerian.
l i thought so as well.Well he will have to work harder to get further notice from the super Eagles I don’t even know what Togo is doing with their contesting for his presence . The AFCON for the super Eagles will draw out attention for many more Nigerian players born abroad and who sees an opportunity to play .
Reuben Agboola,George Abbey , Efan Ekoku, Leon Balogun , Maduka Okoye, Carl Ikeme, Curiel Dessers etcetera . I’m hoping for quality appearance
A player I would have loved to see at afcon. I had thought gift and Boniface would play at this afcon to assess them. Well God knows best.
Musa must be in his place in the team cause of goals he scored since 2014 $2018 world cup
I am so happy for gift orban, i hope to see him create wonder in the french league, now that he plays for lyon, the supereagles gaffer can nolonger ignore him,
If this guy can at list arrive at kudus level, the supereagles will be too strong to handle, i think he will do well better than chukueze, the strikes like thunder and he uses both legs.
A player they would have sold last year for a far better fee.
