Manchester United have announced that Mason Greenwood has joined French Ligue 1 club Olympique Marseille on a permanent transfer.
“Mason Greenwood has left Manchester United and joined French club Olympique de Marseille on a permanent transfer,” United announced on their website on Thursday.
“The 22 year-old English forward, who spent last season on loan at Getafe in Spain, made 129 appearances and scored 35 goals for United since making his debut in 2019.
“We wish Mason all the best in his future career.”
Greenwood had not played for United since January 2022 and spent last season on loan at Getafe, scoring 10 goals and registering six assists on his way to being named the club’s player of the season.
He was arrested that month and later charged with attempted rape, assault and controlling and coercive behaviour in October 2022.
But the charges and case were dropped in February 2023 when key witnesses withdrew. Greenwood has denied any wrongdoing.
His potential move to France sparked a backlash from livid Marseille fans, who launched a #GreenwoodNotWelcome campaign when he was initially linked with the club.
Marseille’s mayor Benoit Payan also opposed the move, saying he would lobby the club’s president Pablo Longoria to call off the deal.
Greenwood, however, received a warm reception from fans when he arrived for his medical on Wednesday, as fans greeted him with flares and chants of his name as he waved to them at the airport.

How useless is complete sports…. Can’t even verify stats before publishing. Are u kidding me? 129 appearances and 35 goals? The appearances have been blown up by CS nonsense.
But Greenwood has 129 appearances, 35 goals and 12 assists for Man Utd. Or are we missing something?
My mistake….The 88 appearances were just premier League games not counting champions League and FA cup games.
