Former Nigeria international Christian Obodo says the current crop of players in the Super Eagles lack personality.
Obodo, 37, made this known in Tuesday’s edition of ‘No Holds Barred’ on Brila FM.
“We have players who play for some of the big clubs in Europe but there is one particular thing they lack which is personality,” the former Perugia, Fiorentina and Udinese midfielder said.
“Nigeria is not a small country, especially when it comes to the national team. For you to break into the team despite the number of players scattered everywhere it’s not easy.
“So what I’m saying is that most of the players don’t have personality. There are some games that would be difficult and we needed someone to do the magic. That’s when we had people like Jay Jay Okocha, Nwankwo Kanu, Yakubu Aiyegbeni, great players that would bring their personality, do something extra when the team needs to score and they would deliver. But unfortunately there is nothing like that now.
“Sometimes when I watch the current team I’m always scared compared to our time. Even when they score a goal I’m always afraid for them not to concede.”

The 2006 AFCON bronze medal winner, also clamoured for the return of Victor Moses back to the Eagles.
“For me personally I think we still need Victor Moses in the national team because he is still in good shape. This is the kind of player with personality that we are looking for in the national team.
“He is still in good shape, we watch him in the Champions League and he is still doing a fantastic job. Sometimes I wonder why such a player was allowed to leave the team just like that.
“I remember when Zinedine Zidane said he is not going to play for France anymore, but the French had to go and beg him to come back because they know his worth.
“We need all those experience players in the team because the players we have now are very young. It’s like when Odion Ighalo returned, I was very happy because we still need a strong dressing room and these players need who will guide them.”

everbody now has the audacity to talk at this team, even obodo?
Anyone who has followed SE for long knows Obodo was no pushover. He played with some of the best set of Super Eagles and had his days… Dismissive and disrespectful comments like this isn’t ideal.
Did you even watched obodo when he played football? Because if you did” then you wouldn’t had referred to him Christian as ( Even ) give respect where it’s needed, that’s how many of you talked bad about one of Nigeria greatest legend ( Yakubu aiyebeni ) simply because he missed an important goal that would had probably qualified the super eagles but forgot other of his numerous great achievements for the teams, many of you should learn to respect and value you very own!!! But I disagree with inviting already retired players, we have Greater players that was inspired by them already but we lack a foresighted good coach and Gernot Rohr isn’t it..
HE IS HIGHLY DELIGHTED TO BE WATCH ON THE FIELD OF PLAY.

VICTOR MOSES NA BABA
Good observation from Obodo
Seriously, coming from a former professional, he’s definitely delusional neither did he in his playing days. What a clown
Thank you obodo. Moses saw corruption in nff and leave. No time to spend with Monkey
Obodo talked a right speak;so Rhor hasn’t made a formidable team from Super Eagles,he has spent six years without any pattern of play without any charisma for SE in African football, look at Belmadi how he has made new Algeria with strong personality and charisma, then he won Africon. Cup in Egypt 2019; the new coach of SE must recreate a new SE with a strong personality, charisma; this requires a new shape with new players who have a soul, home love, effectiveness, playing ferociously, combatively.
Oga understand his point first..he meant individual personality and not personality in our style of play. It’s two different things man. And that is why he mentioned that he was happy with ighalo coming back and that he wish to see Victor Moses back too.
In essence, Ogbodo is emphasizing having a playmaker in crunch time. A dynamic player who can twist the tempo of the game when the team is struggling. Every team need one player who can potentially deliver to save the team from imminent defeat
