Winning the Nigeria Women’s Football League (NWFL) and conquering the continent in the CAF Women’s Champions League is the ultimate goal for Edo Queens this season, according to the club’s newly reappointed chairman and former deputy governor of Edo State, Comrade Phillip Shaibu, Completesports.com reports.
“Having won the NWFL title last season and remaining unbeaten so far this term, Edo Queens are determined to replicate the invincible record of their male counterparts, Bendel Insurance FC. Our target is to win the league again this year and make a strong return to the continent,” Shaibu told Completesports.com.

“The girls have gone unbeaten in the first stanza of the league, and I am praying they sustain this form until the end. Our goal is to qualify for the CAF Women’s Champions League and, this time, win the title for Nigeria.”
Shaibu credited the recent resurgence of Bendel Insurance FC to the Edo State governor, Monday Okpebholo, who reinstated the club’s welfare packages, ensuring both the men’s and women’s teams are highly motivated to perform at their best.

“Bendel Insurance have been boosted by the restoration of their welfare packages, as well as the motivation from the NPFL’s points deduction following crowd violence in their game against Kano Pillars FC in November 2024. We appreciate the NFF Appeals Committee for their ruling, as Bendel Insurance maintain one of the best security networks during matches,” Shaibu stated.
“We are a very disciplined club. What happened against Kano Pillars was an unfortunate incident, and we have taken necessary measures to ensure it never happens again,” the former deputy governor concluded.
