Enoch Nwali defended his title in the Masters category on Sunday, August 25, at the 4th edition of the Governor Douye Diri National Scrabble Championship, held in Yenagoa, the capital of Bayelsa State.
Nwali, who also won the Ultimate Scrabble Showdown in July, secured his victory with 13 wins and a cumulative spread of +1229, earning him the champion’s trophy and the top prize of N750,000.

This win makes Nwali the first player to retain the title in the history of the Governor Douye Diri National Scrabble Championship.
Previous editions saw Oshevire Avwenagha of Delta State and Nsikak Etim of Akwa Ibom State as champions.
In the keenly contested competition, Igali Precious secured second place with 12 wins and a cumulative spread of +140, taking home ₦450,000, while Okiemute Tega finished third, also with 12 wins but a spread of +139, earning ₦330,000.
In the Veterans category, Esan Dokun dethroned the previous champion, Ojior Osikhena, with a cumulative spread of +1465 after 13 wins. Osikhena finished second with a spread of +585.
In the Open category, Nimibo Theophilus emerged as the champion, achieving 13 wins and a cumulative spread of +893, while Bright took second place with a spread of +788, and Ene Ketebu finished third.
In the Intermediate category, Enai Doubara won the title with 13 wins and a cumulative spread of +894, while Kareem Jamiu finished second with a spread of +1090.
In the Secondary School category, Eddie Pereowei from Federal Government College, Odi, emerged as the new champion, succeeding last year’s winner, Adeleke John.
Akpos Malafakumo emerged as the champion in the Female category.
