Sama’ila Bello opened scoring for El-kanemi Warriors on the hour mark.
Taofeek Otaniyi equalised for Rivers United three minutes later.
Finidi George’s side remain top of the standings with 21 points from nine matches.
At the Dan Anyiam Stadium, Owerri, Heartland defeated Remo Stars 1-0.
Afolayan Peters netted the decisive goal 19 minutes from time.

Former champions Plateau United thrashed Sunshine Stars 3-0 at the New Jos Stadium.
Vincent Temitope and Sadiq Adamu (brace) were on target for Solid Miners in the game.
In Aba, Enyimba scored a late winner in the 2-1 victory over Ikorodu City.
Ifeanyi Ihemekwele gave Enyimba the lead after six minutes, while Toyeeb Ajeyigbe equalised for Ikorodu City on 90 minutes.
Moses Adikwu however scored the winning goal for Enyimba in stoppage time.
Elsewhere, Shooting Stars recorded a 2-1 victory over Akwa United.
Gideon Monday and Joshua Akpan were on target for Shooting Stars.
Friday Apollos reduced the deficit for Akwa United.
