Bashir Usman scored the winning goal as Rangers defeated Niger Tornadoes 1-0 at the Bako Kontagaro Stadium, Minna on Sunday.
Usman struck three minutes after the half hour mark.
It was a return to winning ways for the holders, who lost 1-0 away to Shooting Stars last week.
At the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Onikan, Lagos, Ikorodu City beat Sunshine Stars 2-1.
Shola Adelani gave Ikorodu City the lead seven minutes before the break, while Chigozie Iwundu equalised for the visitors in first half stoppage time.
Rivio Ayemnwere netted the winning goal for the home team deep into stoppage time.
Four-time champions Kano Pillars beat El-kanemi Warriors 1-0 in the North West derby.
