Kenechukwu Agu fired home the decisive goal four minutes before the hour mark.
Rangers have now amassed 37 points from 22 games.
Leaders Lobi Stars went down to 2-0 defeat against Sunshine Stars in Akure.
Vincent Temitope gave Sunshine Stars the lead from the spot on 13 minutes.
Chidozie Iwundu added the second goal on the half hour mark.
At the Awka City Stadium, Plateau United inflicted a 5-1 defeat on Heartland.
It was the biggest away win in the NPFL this season.
Olawale Doyeni, Lawrence Agbor, Nenrot Silas, Victor Makalala and Harrison Ebah were the goals scorers for Plateau United.

In Yenagoa, Ekeson Okorie bagged a brace as Bayelsa United defeated Doma United 2-0.
Katsina United defeated Kano Pillars 3-2 in a thrilling North West derby.
The hosts took the lead through Jonas Emmanuel on 33 minutes, while Ibrahim Mustapha equalised for Pillars a minute before the hour mark.
Azeez Falolu put Katsina United ahead for the second time in the game on 68 minutes, with Yahaya Nazifu doubling the advantage two minutes later.
Mustapha Umar reduced the deficit for Pillars 12 minutes from time.
Elsewhere, Sporting Lagos rallied to beat Akwa United 2-1 at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Onikan, Lagos.
The visitors took the lead through through Sani Suleiman on 21 minutes.
Tochukwu Michael struck twice late in the game to hand Paul Offor’s side maximum points.
