Stanley Eguma has described his return to Enyimba FC as a “return to a familiar terrain,” expressing confidence in his ability to restore the club to its former glory, Completesports.com reports.
The veteran coach made this declaration on Saturday in Aba, following his unveiling as the club’s new Technical Adviser.
Eguma, who previously served as assistant coach during Enyimba’s 2004 CAF Champions League-winning campaign, replaces Yemi Olarewaju who had held the post following the departure of Finidi George prior to the start of the 2024/2025 NPFL season.

Eguma was unveiled on Saturday afternoon in Aba, marking the beginning of his second stint with the People’s Elephant. His previous tenure at the club saw him serve as an assistant coach under Okey Emordi during Enyimba’s triumphant 2004 CAF Champions League campaign.
The experienced coach will take charge of his first game in this spell on Tuesday, 31 December, when Enyimba host Bendel Insurance in a rescheduled matchday 19 NPFL fixture.
At 64, Eguma is a veteran of Nigeria’s domestic league, having won multiple titles with clubs like Dolphins (now Rivers United) and Enyimba.
Speaking to Completesports.com after his unveiling, Eguma expressed confidence and familiarity with the task ahead, crediting the Nwankwo Kanu-led management for entrusting him with the role.

“Don’t forget I’ve been here before, back in 2004, when we won the CAF Champions League title,” the soft-spoken gaffer remarked. “So I can conveniently say that I’m returning to a familiar terrain.”
Enyimba are currently struggling in both the NPFL and the CAF Confederation Cup, where they sit at the bottom of Group D with just one point from three matches.
