After a five-match unbeaten run in the 2024/2025 NPFL campaign, Heartland players have expressed confidence ahead of today’s Matchday 14 encounter against Kwara United at the Kwara State Stadium Complex, Ilorin, Completesports.com reports.
The Naze Millionaires, five-time winners of Nigeria’s top-flight league (1987, 1988, 1989, 1990, and 1993), are determined to secure maximum points and avenge last season’s 4-0 defeat in the corresponding fixture.
Benjamin Victor, Heartland’s right-back, emphasised the team’s resolve to claim all three points, describing the match as pivotal to their ambitions.

“We’re here to win the game. The three points are our ultimate target,” Victor told Completesports.com on Tuesday evening.
“This isn’t different from what we’ve faced this season. I’ve played against big teams like Rivers United, Enyimba, Kano Pillars, and Rangers. Kwara United won’t be any different.”
Victor, a key figure in Heartland’s starting XI this season, credits his consistency to coach Emmanuel Amuneke.
“It’s all down to our coach, Emmanuel Amuneke. He’s the secret of my consistency. He corrects, encourages, and pushes me to improve. I’m determined to progress beyond the domestic league, and this game is another step towards achieving that.”
Midfielder Tobi Iyanda echoed Victor’s optimism, viewing the match as an opportunity to erase the memory of last season’s heavy defeat in Ilorin.
“I played against Kwara United here last season. Though we lost 4-0, it was a tough game, and we gave our best,” Iyanda reflected.
“This season, things have changed. Our team is in top shape, and we’re ready to fight. Securing three points tomorrow will not only extend our unbeaten run to six games but also boost our confidence for upcoming fixtures.”
Iyanda also called on fans in Ilorin to support the team: “I encourage my Ilorin fans to come and cheer us on. We’re determined to deliver a great performance.”

Assistant coach Emmanuel Olowo, a former Heartland defender, reinforced the team’s determination.
“We’re prepared, and the players are in good shape to compete. Historically, Heartland have secured points here, and tomorrow won’t be an exception,” Olowo stated.
He highlighted the difference between this season and the team’s struggles in the previous campaign.
“Last season’s loss was in a dead rubber game, with nothing at stake for us. This season, every match is crucial as we climb up the table,” he said.
Heading into today’s clash, Kwara United sit 10th with 17 points in the NPFL table, narrowly ahead of 11th-placed Heartland on goal difference. Both teams are determined to make a strong statement in Ilorin.
