Ahmed Musa scored both goals as Kano Pillars defeated Sunshine Stars 2-0 at the Muhammadu Dikko Stadium on Sunday.
Musa gave Pillars the lead after five minutes, and added the second five minutes after the break.
It was Kano Pillars’ second win in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) this season.
Rivers United secured top spot on the log following a hard-earned 2-1 win over Akwa United.
Stephen Manyo gave the hosts the lead on 32 minutes, while Friday Apollos equalised for Akwa United one minute after the break.
Rivers United got their winning goal through Ndifreke Effiong five minutes from time.

Akwa United are yet to record a win in the NPFL this season.
In Ilorin, Remo Stars suffered their first defeat of the season, going down 1-0 to Kwara United.
Abdulraheem Shola scored the decisive goal four minutes before the hour mark.
Kazeem Ogunleye netted the winning goal on 59 minutes as Rangers defeated Abia Warriors 1-0 in the oriental derby.
At the New Jos Stadium, Plateau United also recorded a 1-0 victory over Ikorodu City, with Vincent Temitope firing home the winner in the 57th minute.
Elsewhere, Heartland claimed their first win of the season courtesy of Michael Ogu’s brace.
