Former Real Madrid and France striker Karim Benzema says there is nothing special about Ballon d’Or winner Rodri as a player.
Benzema said this after the Ballon d’Or award which saw his former Madrid teammate Vinicius miss out despite being tipped as favourite.
“I saw what Vinicius did… I don’t want to talk about France Football or France. As I said a long time ago, and not just this year,” Benzema, a former Ballon d’Or winner himself told El Chiringuito TV.
“Last year too and when I was at Real Madrid too. Vinicius is a player who has always made a lot of effort and it’s not just about scoring goals.
“Last year, when Real Madrid were European champions, Vinicius was decisive in every game. So… I don’t think there is anyone else who deserves it more than Vinicius.
“I have nothing against Rodri, who is a good player, but I am on my sofa, I watch television and Rodri does not do things that make me say ‘Pffff’, and Vinicius has done that more than once.”
Rodri became the first Spaniard has to win the award since Luis Suarez in 1960.
Also, he is the first Premier League player since Cristiano Ronaldo claimed the award in 2008.

If a player like rodri could win the ballon’odor, does it not show how football has lost its glamour? What’s special about rodri? Football is not like the yester years we knew it to be! Without taking sides, vini was more interesting to watch in the champions league than rodri.
Dem no give am because na black man.
Well, football doesn’t move me again like how it was yester years!
Absolutely my brother. I don’t even know the player.
