KRC Genk striker Tolu Arokodare suffered racist abuse from some of his club fans following their home loss to Club Brugge on Sunday.
Genk confirmed this in a statement released on their website on Monday.
In Sunday’s league game against Club Brugge, Genk lost 3-0.
Genk had the chance to take the lead in the 18th minute but Arokodare missed from the penalty spot.
The penalty miss angered some of the club fans who took to social media to throw racist insults at the Nigerian.

“After the match against Club Brugge, Tolu received a series of racist reactions on social media,” the club stated.
“KRC Genk and everyone involved with the club condemn the reactions 100%.
“Racism has no place. Not in football stadiums, not on social media, nowhere. Unfortunately, racism is still deeply rooted in football and by extension in society as a whole.
“It is a shared responsibility to put a stop to this. As a club, we do everything we can to track down those responsible and report them to the police.“
Arokodare has scored eight goals and has provided two assists in 27 league games for Genk this season.

Sorry Tolu, you are not alone. Btw, with the Nigerian online huge presence/population, some of this nonsense can be addressed as we only need to come together to face these people, rubbish them online. Nigeria is too big for those smaller countries to be oppressive. Yes we can!
Not when our own people abuse/troll our footballers because we lost a final
