Chrisantus Uche marked his debut for Getafe by grabbing the goal that earned them a 1-1 draw at Athletic Bilbao in their first game of the new LaLiga season on Thursday.
Oihan Sancet gave Bilbao the lead in the 27th minute before Uche made it 1-1 on 64 minutes.
Spain’s Euro 2024 winner Nico Williams was in action for Bilbao, after he was introduced in the 72nd minute.
Uche joined Getafe from Spanish third division club Ceuta in June, 2024, after signing a four-year deal.
Born in Owerri, Imo State, Nigeria, Uche received an offer from Spanish club Moralo CP in July 2022 and was officially announced by the club in November.
He made his senior debut with the B’s on 20 November, starting in a 2–1 away loss to CP Moraleja, and scored his first goal seven days later in a 4–0 home routing of CF Jaraíz.
The 21-year-old made his first team debut for Moralo on 8 January 2023, coming on as a second-half substitute in a 4–1 Tercera Federación home success over SP Villafranca.
He subsequently established himself as a regular starter as his side missed out promotion in the play-offs.

This was quite a surprise to me, I didn’t think the match would be a draw, I thought we would win. I was quite sad.
