Former Deputy Governor of Edo State, Comrade Phillip Shaibu, has faulted the manner NFF parted ways with Finidi George as Supér Eagles Head Coach, insisting the decision was too hasty, Completesports.com reports.
Speaking after he, as guest player, captained the FCT Council of the Nigeria Union of journalists team at the ongoing NUJ Correspondents Chapel Tournament, Comrade Shaibu said a little patience and better understanding of problem of the Super Eagles could have sorted things out.
“The Super Eagles have not been impressive in recent times, we have the players but we don’t have team like England. We have to get a coach that will build a team. For me I would have left Finidi George to continue with the team, give him more time to build the team,” the former governor who also played as a registered member of Insurance FC stated.

“I had a similar problem when we decided to rebuild Bendel insurance FC. There was pressure from many to fire the coach, but I chose not to. Instead, we brought in some players and after three years, we won promotion to NPFL, went unbeaten in a season and finally won the FA Cup after 43 years”
Comrade Shaibu added: “We need patience to achieve success, you know all Nigerians are coaches. If you bring a whiteman to coach the Super Eagles, the difference is just the colour, I think we have what it takes here. That is my opinion.”
Finidi George resigned as the Super Eagles Head Coach less than two months into the job when he got wind of NFF’s plan to the hire a Technical Adviser a position that would supersede his.

Stupid talk coming from people that knows nothing about football coaching, may be he should hire Finidi to coach his children!
Did you actually read the article? I doubt. Read again with understanding.
Comrade, I beg to disagree. It was the former SE coach, George Finidi that was too hasty in his decision to tender resignation letter. The truth is that SE fans were ready to pull the Minister of Sports and the NFF along should they decide to relieve Finidi of his job. Going forward, all that is byegone as the search for a new coach continues.
Did you say Hasty, wow. Eg how would you feel after leaving a meeting with your companies board of directors to do a review of the companies performance under your watch for one month with no mention of hiring an expatriate at the meeting only to hear from the media, not even directly from them. Please would you want to remain at such company or work with such directors. Abeg finidi did the honorable thing by leaving.
I was transiting Den Haag train zentrum in the Netherlands when a colleague broke the news that Finidi has resigned. I was like why? Just a question but many answers. Well, just like Odion posited, we should be looking forward to a new national coach.
@Peter Ubi, I can understand why you’re in tandem with Mr. Odion’s position but let me tell you, the best for the country, fans and the team is to recall Finidi back to the job even if the NFF has to beg him otherwise, we aren’t gonna qualify for the World Cup.
You sure say Yr mumu nor too.much so? Beg Finidi for what? A coach that does not believe in formation?
No wonder comrade shaibu Philip was impeached. With this mind set, he would run any team aground .
Take my word to the bank. Without Finidi or any attempt in trying to employ a new coach considering the limited timeframe, SE is doomed!
SE is doomed you alluded??? Hahaha, over to NFF members. Really, they must find a way out of the logjam
Yr Finidi is a carpenter. Abeg park well. The US have some of the finest local coaches yet they are looking for an expartrite
E for be obioma na.. lo
Finidi ended our hope already by losing to Rohr’s Benin. Don’t act like he’s the messiah, when he’s actually the doom itself! He had nothing to offer and it’s good he resigned to save himself from further embarrassment.
Make we rest this Finidi matter. He failed.
