Newcastle are expected to confirm Sheffield Wednesday boss Steve Bruce as their new manager by the end of the week. Bruce is understood to have told his current club that he wants to leave to take charge of Newcastle.
Newcastle managing director Lee Charnley is yet to reach a compensation agreement with Sheffield Wednesday but is in talks with the Championship club.

Bruce signed a one-year rolling contract with Wednesday when he took charge and some reports have claimed the Hillsborough outfit will demand up to £5million to allow the 58-year-old to depart, but a figure of around £1million looks more realistic.
Newcastle are keen to have Bruce in place before the first-team squad fly to China at the weekend for the Premier League Asia Trophy.
