Former Red Devils boss Jose Mourinho was thought to be keen to get the Newcastle talisman on board at Old Trafford, having seen the 25-year-old impress under Magpies manager Rafael Benitez.

Leicester’s Harry Maguire, Tottenham’s Toby Alderweireld and Atletico Madrid’s Diego Godin were all defenders linked with a move to United, but reports have suggested United were also pushing to get a deal done for Lascelles.
Time ended up running out for Mourinho at Old Trafford although the club might be tempted to make another move for Lascelles this summer, having already identified the centre-back as a real talent.
