Newcastle’s hopes of signing loan striker Salomon Rondon on a permanent deal have been boosted by West Brom’s play-off elimination. The 29-year-old has impressed at St James’ Park this past season, scoring 11 goals from 32 Premier League appearances to help the side maintain their top-flight status.

The Venezuela international has hinted that he would like to stay put at Newcastle, while boss Rafael Benitez confirmed earlier in the week that he is “really happy” at the club. However, Rondon’s situation was dependent on West Brom’s quest to secure an immediate return to the Premier League via the Championship play-offs.
That dream was ended as they lost out on penalties to rivals Aston Villa at the Hawthorns on Tuesday evening and reports are now claiming the Baggies would accept £16.5million for Rondon to move to Tyneside on a full-time basis.
There is also scope for Newcastle to allow Dwight Gayle to move to West Brom as part of any deal after the striker enjoyed a successful loan season in the midlands, scoring 24 goals in 38 appearances.
