Netherlands international Tijani Reijnders has revealed how his parents named him after former Super Eagles winger Tijani Babangida.
Babangida was a player for Eredivisie giants Ajax 1996 to 2003.
At Ajax, left an indelible mark with his impressive performances which earned him admiration from the club fans including Reijnders’ parents.
Speaking in a video posted on X concerning the inspiration behind his first name, Reijnders explained how his parents said his parents were thrilled by Babangida’s playing style which led to them naming their son after him.
“There is a football player from Ajax His name is Tijani Babangida and my parents liked his first name and that is, ” Reijnders said in the video on X.
Reijnders joined AC Milan following a standout season with AZ Alkmaar, and has been making waves in Serie A since joining the Italian giants in July 2023.
He made 36 appearances in his debut season for Milan and scored three goals and made four assists.
He is currently with the Netherlands national team at the ongoing European Championship in Germany.
Babangida is currently recovering from a terrible accident he and his family members were involved back in May.
The accident claimed the lives of his younger brother and former Golden Eaglets star Ibrahim Babangida and his son.
