He made this known in an interview with the PA news agency as per Denbighshire Freepress, where he said that it was the desire of his father for him to represent Nigeria.

God Bless you IKE, you no be like some people wen de make shakara. And your father too.
Your father is a wise man because he can see tomorrow.
Real Father, God will bless you forever Brother,
No be those fake ones at Milan, Romas that use our interest
just to seek the attention of England.
You are the epitome of Been brought up in a cultured Nigerian home.
Now it’s obvious the igbos are more patriotic despite all the suffering and bashing they got from the country, saka, abraham and tomori all neglect there father land and trust me all this gat to do with the parents, the parents play a great role in this, see the adeyemi guy too. Big up to you son IKE and ur father is the real deal.
Football na business ooo.
Ike Ugbo has expressed his desire to play for Nigeria. But if he is not good enough, he will not be invited!
There is no room for sentiment. If he is among the best we have, he will be invited. If not, he will not smell the SE camp, no matter how much his Dad wants him to play for Nigeria.
If this is the case, why is it then an issue if a foreign born player decides not to play for Nigeria? After weighing the pros and cons, with the cons far outweighing the pros, is a foreign born talent still obligated to chose Nigeria? After all, if he was not good enough, Nigeria is not obligated to invite him, and will not even look in his direction.
This is not about patriotism. This is business.
It makes no sense from a business perspective, to advise your son or daughter to come and play for a country that will owe match bonuses and other entitlements, and will not take care of them if they get injured, or when they retire.
Look at the shameful episode with the D’Tigress.
A country that uses talent when it’s available, and dumps it when it’s no longer useful.
If the useless NFF ONIGBESE were doing the right thing, Saka and co. would probably be in the SE today.
As it stands, Saka and co. are getting their match bonuses immediately after matches. If they get injured or retire from football, England will take care of them.
With Nigeria, na OYO dem dey (ON YOUR OWN).
No reasonable person will see a burning house and willingly enter inside.
