Super Eagles captain Ahmed Musa has stated that this could be the last time he will be playing at the Africa Cup of Nations, reports Completesports.com.
Musa will lead the Super Eagles charge for a fourth continental title when they face seven-time champions Egypt at the Stade Roumde Adjia,Garoua on Tuesday night.
The winger stated that this particular edition of the competition is special to him and he is determined to quit on a winning note. ‘ I think this could be my last Africa Cup of Nations with Nigeria,” Musa told a press conference on Monday.
“I explained the importance of this edition of AFCON to my teammates, and I told them winning the title is the only thing they can gift me, and they told me they are going for it.
“My first tournament with Nigeria was the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations in South Africa, where we successfully won the title, and my second appearance was in Egypt where we came third.
“Whenever I am called up for international duty, I will always be there.”

Well said our captain! You have serve your country very well. After this Afcon is time to go and rest! We love you! Thanks for all the memories. Especially the two goals against a messi led Argentina team. We will never forget
Four goals my brother….2014 and 2018
Oh sorry two against Argentina actually.
Musa you have done your bit. Please retire after AFCON.
CSN not last tournament, but last AFCON for Nigeria that means if we qualify for the WorldCup he will retire after the WorldCup. That’s exactly what he said and meant. Musa will surely go to the WorldCup if Nigeria qualify.
If he’s not good enough he shouldn’t go to the world cup.Let deserving players get the nod we respect him for his selfless service to the country.
He is disciplined and committed to the Nigerian course,we appreciate what he has done for the national teams we wish him well in his future endeavours.
I would rather he retires after the Afcon he hasn’t got the legs anymore.
If he loves his country he should retire when he isn’t able to give his best because the best is only what you can give to your country not less.
Sure @Ayphillydegreat the door is wide open for him if we qualify for world cup..
You over stayed Musa
You’ve really done well, na the over do wan spoil am.
Thanks legend
May be he’s the one that is going to get the lone goal for nigeria against Egypt(if we score any) you never know.
He should go to the world cup if we make it. He is our world cup legend, scored brace against Argentina in two consecutive world cup tournaments.
Sorry brace in two world cups…not Against Argentina
@Mirah will your finger develop weak low if you just leave it at Thank you legend? Which one is over stayed there again? Come on you people should show some respect to our captain on a global platform like this.. Na only Nigeria I discover say we don’t show respect to our captain o…
Musa is someone that his talent is not in doubt,I like him a lot for his direct play and speed, but it’s obvious now that he has gone past his prime,I would advice u to retire after the Afcon just like Jay Jay did when he saw that he was getting older coupled with injuries,he retired with his head held high,if u continue to pursue ur dream of being the highest capped super eagles player,it will not go down well with so many fans.if by chance u play well in this Afcon,I will continue to support ur inclusion in the eagles,so it’s up to u.
He has served his nation greatly and we appreciate. He’s been very dedicated, never complaining when he’s not in the first team, always early to camp etc. Four goals in the world cup is not an easy feat. However, those days of him running players down the wings is gone and time to give younger players a chance is come
Well done my captain. You’ve done well
We still need Musa around till after the world cup. International football and club side football not same level. Till date Messi hasn’t made substantial impact in the world cup after 4 world cups but in club sides he is unstoppable. Musa may not be playing for a sexy European club but in tournaments he is always handy when all hopes are gone. 2 world cups 4 goals is not beans. Messi has same number of goals from 4 world cups. Ademola, Denis et al can come and fail to replicate their club form . Fans Remember how we Clamoured for Mikel’s retirement and he hided our voices. However, Since Mikel and Victor moses let the team
The team as been struging against top teams..Till date I believe if VM and Mikel were in against Algeria S.e would have beaten them silly like they in Uyo during the world qualifiers. Modric still for Croatia at 38. Pls let Musa be till further notice.
Thanks so much Ahmed Musa. You’re a Super Eagles legend and up there with the best. Whatever happens after AFCON 2021 will not change the minds of fans especially as you have never been known to turn down invitations or look for easy excuses.
