All is set for the first car racing championship in Nigeria tagged Motor Sport Auto Fiesta billed to hold at the TBS Race Course in Lagos on 6th October 2019, Completesports.com reports.
The car racing competition which will feature three events namely ; Go Kart, Motorbikes and Cars, is being put together by FAME in partnership with the Lagos State Government.
Speaking at a press conference in Lagos over the weekend, MD/CEO of FAME, Charles Farimoyo said it was time for Nigerians to break the barriers in motor sport and benefit from the biggest and the richest sport in the world.
“We want to bring another element of sports to Nigeria so that our country can become the leading country in Africa in motor sport,” Farimoyo said.
“Motor sport is a money spinner and it is the biggest and richest sport in the world with huge economic potential for Nigeria and Nigerians.
“We’ve been in the car racing business for the past seven years and have organized events here and abroad. But the Motor Sport Auto Fiesta will be the first car racing championship in Nigeria.
“The competition is open to all racing clubs in Nigeria and there will be prize money and trophies for the winners in all categories as national champion will be crowned.
“Contestants will compete in accordance with the capacity of their cars. Freelance drivers can also participate but they can’t take part in the championship.”
Farimoyo informs that all standard safety mechanism ranging from insurance, security, medical facilities have been put in place for the Motor Sport Auto Fiesta which is expected to be a yearly one with the hosting going round the country.
He added: “We have put every necessary safety mechanism in place like event medical doctors, mobile clinics, ambulance, fire brigade and other necessary Lagos State MDAs like Lasema and others will be on ground in addition to 3-fold insurance covering personal, venue and participants.
Other side attractions include car stunts and others. People can take time out to come and watch the championship. It will be great fun for everyone,” Farimoyo concluded.
