Joaquin Caparros may stay on as Sevilla boss beyond this season after sporting director Monchi said he wants to keep working with him. The 63-year-old moved from his director of football position to team manager last month when Pablo Machin departed his role and the side’s results have subsequently improved.

Monchi, who only returned to the Liga outfit last month, has been impressed with Caparros’ impact and appears keen to continue having him at the helm going into the 2019-20 season and beyond. Monchi, who also worked with Caparros in a previous spell at Sevilla between 2000-05, said in Marca: “I would love to work as close to Joaquin as possible in the next few years.
“Hopefully the circumstances will be there for them to take place, there are many conditions outside the classification (in La Liga) and the evaluation will be based on objective and subjective data. “Qualification for the Champions League?
