Everton defender Yerry Mina hopes his injury issues are firmly in the past after starting all three Premier League games this term. The Colombia international arrived on Merseyside last summer after failing to have an impact with Spanish giants Barcelona.
His move to the Nou Camp in January 2018 from Palmeiras came as a bit of a surprise, having only played 28 times for the Brazilian side over two seasons, and he was restricted to just five appearances in La Liga before signing for Everton.
Mina was carrying a foot injury when Everton parted with €30million for his services and he had to wait until November 2018 to make his debut.
The central defender started just 10 games across the 2018-19 campaign in the league, making 13 appearances in total, and that was hugely detrimental to the Toffees.
Marco Silva had hinted that Mina and Michael Keane would be his preferred partnership at the back but loanee Kurt Zouma had to fill in alongside the latter.
Keane and Mina have started all three Premier League games in 2019-20, keeping two clean sheets, and the 24-year-old says he is motivated to prove his worth this term.
Mina told the club’s official website: “That was a great motivation for me this season. “I started with the best intentions [after signing] but it didn’t turn out too well because of injuries. “But they are behind me now and I am fully recovered. “I am working very hard every day to do the best I can for the Club.”
Everton have made a steady start to the term, claiming four points from three games, and they face another tough test against Wolves at Goodison Park on Sunday.
Wolves claimed a 3-1 victory at Everton last season but their exploits in the Europa League have left them looking a little fatigued in the Premier League.
Mina has warned his teammates about the importance of maintaining focus when they return to action off the back of their 4-2 Carabao Cup win over Lincoln on Wednesday.
He added: “We will approach the game with a great deal of focus, “It is a rapid game when you play Wolves. They are a very intelligent team. “It is important to keep our focus and maintain control throughout.”
