John Mikel Obi believes he was a bit underrated during his time at Premier League giants, Chelsea.
Mikel joined Chelsea in 2006 after starring for Nigeria’s U-20 side at the 2005 FIFA U-20 World Cup in the Netherlands.
The midfileder was named the second best player at the tournament behind Lionel Messi.
At Chelsea, he was converted into a defensive midfielder by Jose Mourinho and managed just one goal in 249 league appearances during his time at West London.

“ I don’t know, I think, I think for mostly for the Chelsea fans, I think,”Mikel said on Dubai Eye 103.9 radio
“Yeah, they probably think I was, you know, I’m a bit underrated. But it’s not something that really got to me.
“I mean, I was just, they’re doing my work, you know, enjoying playing football and, you know, enjoying being at the club.
“But when it comes down to the national team, I was always someone who is more, you can look at me as someone who was underrated. Well, obviously at Chelsea, you know, like the big names, John Terry, the Lampard, the Drogba, all these guys obviously were always taking the glory every weekend.
“So for us, some of the players, it was a bit of, we were there doing our bit to help the club win. We worked as a team. not everybody was getting the credits that they deserve.”

You mean with all the best managers and his style of play he can’t learn to be a good coach. Mikel should have gotten certification as a foreign coach and give the little he can for Nigerian football. What pains me about Mikel is he doesn’t strife to improve. I agree he was underrated but maybe many was waiting for his improve version but he didn’t give it
Being a footballer does not necessary mean that they have to become a coach. It’s all about passion. He may not have the passion for coaching,so let’s just let him be. If he decides tomorrow to pick up interest in coaching, good.
