McLaren have confirmed that Lando Norris and Carlos Sainz Jr will remain their drivers for the 2020 season. The duo, who at 19 and 24 formed McLaren’s youngest-ever driver line-up this year, have impressed throughout the 2019 season, collecting a combined 52 points that has steered the British team up to fourth in the Drivers’ Championship standings.
Both drivers were new to McLaren at the start of the season, with Sainz having joined from Renault while Norris is in his rookie season in Formula One. Despite the latter’s lack of experience, McLaren have now opted to move early by signing the pair up for the 2020 season, with team boss Andreas Seidl confirming they are happy with the progress of both men. “We are very happy with both of them, how they are progressing since the beginning of the season with us,” he told Sky Sports.

“They are the future for our team and very happy that we have clarity and transparency for the team and looking forward to some more successful years together.” Sainz currently sits seventh in the Drivers’ Championship standings, a place and eight points clear of Norris, who admits he is buzzing after having his future sorted out. “It does give me a bit more confidence,” the Brit said. “I’m not saying I didn’t have any confidence, but just knowing I’m going to be here for another year I can continue to work hard, I can continue to push.”
