Kylian Mbappe is set to be out for three weeks after sustaining a thigh injury in Real Madrid’s 3-2 victory over Deportivo Alaves on Tuesday night.
“Following the tests carried out today on our player Kylian Mbappe by the Real Madrid Medical Services, he has been diagnosed with an injury to the femoral biceps of his left leg. Pending evolution,” the statement from the club read.
At first, it was said that Mbappe would be available to play Atletico Madrid later this weekend and that the issue was only an overload.
But it’s official now that Mbappe has sustained an injury that will keep him out of action for a considerable amount of time.
Madrid Universal also learned that Mbappe is expected to miss three weeks of action due to club sources.
This implies that Mbappe will now miss this weekend’s derby against Atletico Madrid, as well as Lille’s match in the UEFA Champions League and Villarreal’s match in La Liga before the international break.
The 25-year-old will make his comeback against Celta Vigo on October 19 following the international break, if all goes as planned.
Mbappe scored the second goal for the Laliga giants in their triumph over Alaves with Lucas Vazquez and Rodrygo Goes among the scoresheet.
Alaves scored two late goals through Carlos Benavidez and Kike Garcia but it wasn’t enough as Carlo Ancelotti’s side held on to their victory to go one point behind league leaders, Barcelona.
So far this season, the 25-year-old has scored five goals and provided an assist in seven matches for Madrid.
