German legend, Lothar Matthaus, believes that Argentina, Spain, France and Brazil are the top four favourites to win the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
The 2022 FIFA World Cup is set to take place between November 20 and December 18. Les Bleus of France are the defending champions. Victory at Russia 2018 was their second FIFA World Cup title following the 1998 feat as hosts.
La Albicelete of Argentina have won the World Cup twice (1978 and 1986), La Furia Roja of Spain have won it thrice (1964, 2008 and 2012), while Brazil’s Selecao have bagged the world title three times (1958, 1962,1970, 1994 and 2002). Germany’s Nationalelf have won it four times (1954, 1974, 1990 and 2014).

The quadrennial Mundial is taking place in the latter part of the year for the first time and various Nations will have their eyes on the ultimate prize.
In an interview with Marca, Matthaus, a 1990 FIFA World Cup winner as West Germany’s captain, named the countries he believes are most likely to win the forthcoming 2022 World Cup alongside his native Germany.
“One of them but along with Argentina, Spain, France… there are six or seven,” Matthaus who currently works as a television pundit told Marca.
“Brazil as well. You have to look at the whole squad, not just the starting eleven.
“There are always surprises and this World Cup will be a little different, with the players in top form.
“It’ll be better than a summer World Cup.”
Matthaus won the Italia 90 World Cup with Germany, defeating Argentina 1-0 in the final at Stadio Olympico in Rome.
