Raphael Varane believes Manchester United have enough quality players who can win this season’s UEFA Champions League despite their form.
United will face Turkish Super Lig team Galatasaray in their second group stage clash of the competition on Tuesday, September 3 at Old Trafford.
The Red Devils have made a return to the Champions League this season after competing in the Europa League last season.
They have had a shaky start to their Champions League campaign after losing 4-3 to Bayern Munich on Wednesday, September 2O at the Allianz Arena.
Leroy Sane, Serge Gnabry, Harry Kane and Mathys Tel scored for Bayern while Casemiro and Rasmus Hojlund got the goals for United.
Speaking in the press conference ahead of the clash with Galatasaray, Varane seemed highly confident in United’s chances of clinching the continental trophy this season.
“Yes I think so,” manutd.com quoted Varane as saying.
“I think we have the quality in the squad to win the competition. The competition is difficult, you have to take care about every detail.
“But yeah we have a team with quality, with good mentality. We have to make some improvements, it’s not the start of the season we expected, but I still believe we have enough quality to compete with the best teams in the world.
“Tomorrow is a great opportunity to get the first three points in the competition and to move forward and to improve. At the moment, in the last few (weeks), I think what we can improve is to be efficient in front of the goals.

With a very low number of occasions, we concede goals and we create a lot to score. That’s the reality of the top level. You have to be efficient to win trophies.”
Varane is yet to make an appearance in the Champions League this season but he has one goal in five Premier League games this term.
Manchester United are last place in Group A of the 2023/24 Champions League with zero points after matchday one.
The Red Devils have won the Champions League three times (1967/68, 1998/99 and 2007/08).
They are currently 10th on the Premier League table with nine points after seven games.
United have won the Premier League a record 20 times
