Newcastle are reportedly set to fight it out with West Ham for the signature of Porto’s Mali international forward Moussa Marega. The 28-year-old, who has scored 45 goals in 99 appearances for the Portuguese outfit since joining in 2016, has a 30 million euros release clause in his contract at the Estadio do Dragao.
That would not be a problem for Magpies’ boss Steve Bruce as he looks to bring another top striker to the club following the record signing of Joelinton from Hoffenheim on Tuesday. Salomon Rondon and Ayoze Perez have both departed St James’ Park this summer so there is room to bring another forward into the squad and Marega would fit the bill.
However, Hammers’ boss Manuel Pellegrini is also believed to be in the running to sign Marega as he looks for another attacking player to complement Sebastien Haller, who moved to the London Stadium for a club-record £45million from Eintracht Frankfurt last week.
