Recall that Jordan Henderson, who is a holding midfielder departed Anfield this summer to move to the Saudi Pro League while Thiago Alcantara is currently sidelined due to a hip injury.
“He [Maddison] has been brilliant and listen I’m a little bit worried about him on Saturday because Liverpool still don’t really have a holding midfielder player. They’ve got [Alexis] Mac Allister playing there, that’s not his role,” Carragher said on the An Echo To Glory podcast (as quoted by The Boot Room).
“So, I think that is something that Liverpool will have to keep an eye on, whether they put someone else in there or they put two men in there. I think he’s been that good this season that you’ve got to have a little plan for Maddison.”
Maddison was capped by England at under-21 level from 2017 to 2019, and made his debut for the senior team in 2019. He was part of the 2022 FIFA World Cup squad
Maddison and his partner, Kennedy Alexa, have a son who was born in July 2021. The pair also have twins
