Miguel Angel Lopez clinched the Volta a Catalunya for Astana ahead of Britain’s Adam Yates on Sunday. The 25-year-old, who had already won the Tour of Colombia on home soil, went ahead courtesy of his uphill win at La Molina in Thursday’s fourth stage.

Lopez managed to maintain his lead since, but Mitchelton-Scott’s Yates pushed him hard on Sunday’s final stage which concluded in Barcelona. However, he held on to claim a win by just 14 seconds in the overall classification.
Lopez’s fellow Colombian Egan Bernal of Team Sky had to settle for third place, another three seconds adrift of Yates. Meanwhile, the 2016 Tour de France runner-up Romain Bardet and fellow Frenchman Warren Barguil were forced to abandon the race following a crash during a descent on the final stage.
