Lomachenko won a unanimous points decision at London’s O2 Arena after taking the first few rounds to work out his British opponent. Victory in the capital, where he won gold at the 2012 Olympics, handed Lomachenko the vacant WBC belt while he retained his WBA and WBO titles.
The Matrix has plans to unify the division and hopes to take on the winner of Teofimo Lopez v Richard Commey next year. Lomachenko said: “I want to unify the titles, I want the IBF, but I’m not sure that will be next. It might not be this year or my next fight.”
