I am reading some comments here now and I am shaking my head.
Some of us doesn’t understand football at all.
Now, permit me to analyze the match for you a bit.
Before the match against Mexico, I have stated it here clearly that we shouldn’t expect too much from our team because at least, our players did not arrive to camp early due to NFF poor planning.
Common Nigerians, our players are not machine, they are human like us.
Am very disappointed the way some people are blaming the Super Eagles players now.
I think we should be thankful for their efforts and saving Nigeria from disgraced NFF committed by organizing a match of magnitude this way.
More so, if we noticed, Dessers was tired in that match but he tried his best and he didn’t get supply from our midfielders.
The little supply he got from Bassey, he scored it.
The entire team did well and I am highly impressed because if I may ask, how many days did they stay together as a team?
They had two days training or so and they played like that huh?
For me, I didn’t expect that much from our players against Mexico because of long journey and poor preparations from the Nigeria Football Federation.
Long story short, we should putting the blame on NFF not our players.
Last but not least, Oga Paseiro did very well and I can say it with what I saw against Mexico today, this Oga Paseiro will do much better if given more time to put things together.
He did something that amazed me. If Oga Rohr or coach Eguavoen were in charge of today’s match, I don’t think they will replaced Dessers. The new gaffer has confidence and he even introduced our local players.
Kolawoleeeeeee. Kai, am proud of Dessers and I hope Oga Rohr and coach Eguavoen watched the match as well.
Iwobi can not do it all. Oga Paseiro need to scouting for more creative midfielders. Nwobodo, Ejaria are needed in this team also.
Lastly, my people please be patient. I can tell you people that Ecuador match will be much better than this one.
Eagles will have more time to settle down and more calm than today.
We will see an energetic Dessers against Ecuador. Our players were tired in the first half which I expected. Once again, put the blame on “NFF AJĘWOMASAN the debtor”, not our players. Mexico is not a push over in football. So far so good, am impressed with Oga Paseiro’s performance against Mexico. Ire o. God bless Nigeria!!!

Can we just ow these guys to breathe and settle in. Mexico is not our mate in football. They are better. So let us hope the coach will use the game to access his players and no how best to use them going forward. The defence caused the goal. That was a rebound and cold happen to any keeper. Our mid field and defence is weak. No one to send passes to the strikers. Meanwhile, our passes are generally shambolic and poor. The Mexican give acccurate passes so we really need to just let them play the best way they can and we can take the positives.

Very inconsiderate comment knowing he played a final Thursday night and only got to camp friday and still scored. Bad belle people waiting for others to fail.
Golden Child on
You obviously did not give much thought to your comment. He did his job which is to score goals and you still complain. The midfield needs a lot of work. The domestic players gave a good account of themselves, I liked the ishaaku dude.
A good test game, lots of positives. I liked iwobi’s energy. Uzoho was much more steady in the end half, He should keep it up. AWazuem had a poor game, so did bonke and aribo.
I think Ekong has too much errors in his game and is becoming a liability. Peseiro would do well to look for a new defensive centre back pairing. Failure to do that would cost him dearly. He was at fault for the 1st goal when the Mexican player peeled of him to score and he later scored an own goal.I will pair Bassey with Ajayi or Ndah. Sentimental Nigerians will not be happy about this but Failure to make the required changes will lead to tears at the end. Ekong at the moment should not be starting for Nigeria, doesn’t start for the poor watford defense, that should give us a clue.

From what I’ve seen in the 1st half, I think Awaziem should move to DM, Bassey should take Awaziem’s role, then Simon Moses should move to the left where he is comfortable.

Jimmy Ball oooooooo! Quite an age, where have you been? Seems you’ve been on sabbatical but you propped up the moment Ekong scored an own goal.
That was a bad touch from Ekong anyways, and I think he’s been having a bad patch in his career of late. Be that as it is, Ekong has done well for himself in the past but he surely needs to work hard to get himself back on track. He may not be the perfect or flamboyant centre back we wish for, but he isn’t as poor as you described him. That he has been a first teamer in SE in the past 6yrs regardless of his average rating also shows the quality of players available for selection in the SE over the years.
Let’s hope Aina returns against Equador and gives us the possibility of seeing Semi Ajayi and Chidozie Awaziem pair up in Central defence.
Good to hear from Jimmy ball again though.

Mexico play like Argentina and they get exhausted quickly now it’s showing in their game. I think Nigeria should play to their strength which power . Senegal hardly play fancy football but share power
The new coach should teach our players on how to make successful pass, positioning and team play then we are good to at least dominate Africa
JimmyBall on
Nobody teaches pass at this level… It’s not kindergarten football.

Watching Iwobi play today and someone still saying we don’t have a capable NO 10, needs to re- examine his understanding of football. Yes we need a backup No 10 n not a case of we not having one. Anyway congrats to the lads. Congrats to Dessers. Love that HOMEBASED inverted left wing player that operated from the right. We need to see more of him.
The result would have been better if they got to the game from kickoff.
It would have been draw if not of the own goal
I expect a better performance in the next game next week.
God bless Super Eagles of Nigeria

Playing Mexico in Texas is like a home-gsme for them. The Super Eagles hsve gotten a good result of 1 – 2, with an own goal msking the difference.

Guys don’t condemn this team, rather the players who pulled out from the games should be fingered as ones who doesn’t really care about the team. The match panned out as expected with nothing to play for. I only saw Bassey and Dessers as for the other players they need to show more hunger if they must earn a place in the future eagles. Not a bad start for a new coach!!!

This is very poor from our boys but i think not having a full house affected them.. all these home based players are average.. pesiro has alot to do in building this team, our midfield is so poor.. we need new players.. more players should be invited for the next game if possible.. few postives from the match is the quality of basey, desser and moffi.. these guys are Good.. desser is the type of striker that needs to be supplied the passes for him to score,we saw his beautiful header.. we need new players in the middle.. ekong is match rusty, someone is not playing for his club starting in the national team.. what do you expect
Cuteprince on
What did this your moffi played except for missing an open net? So in your assessment moffi is among our top 3 performing players of this match??? Na wao… no wonder our indigenous coaches can’t pick the right players… they’re a reflection of the mentality of most fans
Deji on
The performance is not that bad. I love the combination of Iwobi and Aribo. It improves our creativity. Style of play looks better. I think the coach appears tactically better than Eguaveon and Rohr.
Cuteprince on
Stop blaming Ekong for that owngoal… why were our players like Simon and awaziem ball before it got to that… our players reaction to play is very slow and weak… our marking is very poor thereby making our defending porous and abysmal… the less said about our pressing the better…
Lately, Eagles fidget when playing non African opposition and are complacent against African teams
I wonder what kind of people comment here. Have you even played football before?
The game haven’t even started and very derogatory comments already started. Which game where you guys watching?
First the coach names his best 11 possible based on the players in camp. He played a 352 yes it took us a while to settle. However he rejigged his team in the second half and Thier was some marked improvement. We all need to relax and let this team evolve under a new coach with a new styl.
People should grow up and understand that the players are humans who have emotions. Ekong made a mistake so what?
Is that why he should be insulted?
The guy had an above average game save for that error, anyone can make mistakes. Game haven’t even started someone says uzoho is rubbish, uzoho is jittery,Hana.
Dessers wasent getting service yet he was being insulted before he scored.
If we continue like this nobody will be left to play for the national team.
If you must criticize be objective and gracious. You don’t need to insult any player or even anyone else here for having an opinion.
Express your own view and move on.
Thank you Ken. Very impatient lots. Professional football na your mate? These footballers are humans too for Christ sakes!!! Let them breathe. Gosh!

@ken, God bless you. Well spoken brother. Am expecting Deo, Pompei, Kel, Ayphillydegreat, Chima E Samuels, Oakfield, Dr.Drey and the rest of us to do their analysis of the match against Mexico.
Do we have hope in Oga Paseiro with what we saw today? It is too early but with what I saw today, for me, I will say yes to the question but we have to be patient with the team. God bless Nigeria!!!
Well…some people here need to just be staying calm unless, they will just run mad because of impatience.
To my darling super Eagles, I know we will get there.
No Okoye, No Aina, No Balogun, No Indidi, No Chukwueze, No Lookman, No Dennis, No Osimhen..some Arewa boys even pulled out at the dying minutes, forcing the coaches to change plans within just a day. Wow!!! And we stood against Mighty Mexico close to their backyard like that!!!! Kudos to you people.
@Uzoho, congrats but we need to see more.
@Bassey, I’m seeing Virgil Vandyke spirit in you. Thank God we have you.
@Iwobi, chaii..welcome back, even though some people wear bra for face while watching the match, they couldn’t feel those moves, I see u bro.
@Aribo, I know u will get back to your normal self when Iwobi is finally back, I felt those one-twos btw you both..welcome.
@Dessers, the natural finisher. Now! A game changer is here..Osimhen Starts, Dessers ends it..that’s the voodoo!
At Awaziem, pls, step up on time and grab your spot from Ekong, it’s getting dark for him already.
To all our homebased, you all tried, it’s good to mix with big boys, I pray u can repeat that during Chan and Wafu tournaments… And to Ekong!!!!
Hmmm…3 or more Own goals already for super Eagles, not even at club levels in country matches that we don’t see often!! Chaii..
Against Croatia, Algeria and now Mexico? Well .. we still need you anyways but it’s time you start coming from the bench like Keshi in 94 and Yobo in 2013 and Ironically, we won both tournaments ..may be when start running your captaincy job from the bench, we’ll win a tournament.
@Moffi, you tried but we don’t want only active strikers in eagles, we need goal scorers.
Overall..they surprised me. At least, we didn’t conceed 4 goals this time.

I think people should realize that this is a live match blog and as such it would capture fan’s emotions at various stages of the game. Players will be criticized and praised as the game progresses.
Sean on
That’s why onee needs to be patient which is what we are preaching..
Keep your emotions to yourself till the end of the whistle (that’s maturity) then do your summary. Our players are humans too. They are all better than those that missed this match without good reason.
Thanks bro.
Golden Child on
@Sean, criticism is part of life, especially in this sport . Any player who does not want to be criticized is better of doing something else but I bet you whatever he decides to do , someone will criticise him.
What we should preach is constructive criticism. Again, it is a blog, there is nothing abnormal about the mixture of emotions. Just watch some fans match vlog, it is designed to document your emotions during the course of the game (logs your emotions and interaction) . Any professional footballer who is afraid of being criticised publicly is in the wrong profession. Pundits will give their assessment of a game at half time, are they expected to wait till full time before they give their comments?

He may not be the perfect or flamboyant centre back we wish for, but he isn’t as poor as you described him. That he has been a first teamer in SE in the past 6yrs regardless of his average rating also shows the quality of players available for selection in the SE over the years.
Let’s hope Aina returns against Equador and gives us the possibility of seeing Semi Ajayi and Chidozie Awaziem pair up in Central defence.
Good to hear from Jimmy ball again though.
XHUXHU PLS I NEED YOUR NUMBER
Time for substitution abeg. Our glory days are beginning to fade gradually. We need top players. This ones are still playing like under 23 for me
Watching from hesgoal . I think the commentators are from Mexico the way scream whenever Mexico scored and not when Nigeria score is unprofessional. Someone said Nigeria don’t have world class our problem is organized play . And when you considers some players are not even playing I think we are not doing as bad as we thought
Thank you at respect..the camera is just following only the Mexicans around..I tire.
Which station are you guys viewing this match
Mexico play like Argentina and they get exhausted quickly now it’s showing in their game. I think Nigeria should play to their strength which power . Senegal hardly play fancy football but share power
The new coach should teach our players on how to make successful pass, positioning and team play then we are good to at least dominate Africa
Nobody teaches pass at this level… It’s not kindergarten football.
It’s high ti.e Ekong chop bench in he national team top. For christ sake this man has not played club football for a while…..How did he even start? Mexico should have whooped us like 4-1
Watching Iwobi play today and someone still saying we don’t have a capable NO 10, needs to re- examine his understanding of football. Yes we need a backup No 10 n not a case of we not having one. Anyway congrats to the lads. Congrats to Dessers. Love that HOMEBASED inverted left wing player that operated from the right. We need to see more of him.
Super eagles played better in the second half.

Nigeria shall be great again.
What did this your moffi played except for missing an open net? So in your assessment moffi is among our top 3 performing players of this match??? Na wao… no wonder our indigenous coaches can’t pick the right players… they’re a reflection of the mentality of most fans
The performance is not that bad. I love the combination of Iwobi and Aribo. It improves our creativity. Style of play looks better. I think the coach appears tactically better than Eguaveon and Rohr.
** Simon and awaziem ball watching **
God bless you Ken
That’s why onee needs to be patient which is what we are preaching..
Keep your emotions to yourself till the end of the whistle (that’s maturity) then do your summary. Our players are humans too. They are all better than those that missed this match without good reason.
Thanks bro.
@Golden – Thanks you o jare awe, tell them for the rest of us, just because we make one comment without any prejudice, rather than offer their own different opinion and we agree/disagree amicably but not here, if it is not itk’s, abusing people, it’s ghanians causing problems haba!
@sean abi na wetin be your name, pleasew don’t start ignoring me o! I don’t know what you bloody ghanans want here among your “so called” enemies..Unuofias!
